How to meet a rich Jerk

Since you transferred to Domino, your Life wasn't the easiest, but it actually never was.

You had to leave your hometown because of your abusive mother.

Your parents argued all the time when they were together. If it wasn't for you, their child, they would have broken up already. But they always wanted to look like a good family, even if it was a big lie.

When your mother was angry, she would take it out on you. Hit you, tell you how worthless you are, how you ruined her life.
Dad wouldn't come home often. He was probably seeing someone else, you told yourself. But that didn't make it easier for you.
Bruises covering your body, tears running down your skin. You took it, you weren't strong enough to stand up for yourself.

You couldn't bring yourself to hate them, even if they were the worst parents on earth, they still were your parents.

But one day, neighbors found out about everything and reported your mother to the police.
You were scared of your future. What would happen if your mother got arrested for child abuse?

Well, today you could answer that question.
Your father was really seeing another woman and decided to move together with her, taken you with him.

That's how you ended up in Domino.
Your stepmother wasn't that terrible and it was easy to see how happy your Dad was with her.
So you could accept her.

The new school however was different. You had a hard time finding friends. You didn't know a single person and your introverted, shy personality wasn't helping either.

Often you sat alone during the breaks. Being jealous of the different groups of friends that laughed together and had fun.

One day when you walked through the hallway, you saw a poster on the wall.
The school planned a Duel Monsters tournament.
From the given information, it looked more like a fun tournament, no big prize, or anything else.

You played Duel Monsters in your old town against friends. You weren't the best player and never aimed for a competitive career, it was just a card game to have fun for you, nothing serious.

But maybe, you would be able to make friends at the tournament or at least got to know people that liked the game too.

After class, you immediately decided to register yourself for the tournament in the secretary.
After that, you head home to organize your deck.
You haven't played since you moved. Even if you wanted, you had no one to play against.

The week passed by fast.
It was Saturday, tournament day.
You got your deck together and went to the school gym.

There were tables prepared and seats for viewers. It was bigger than you expected and you felt nervous.

You saw a familiar person at the entrance if you remembered the name correctly he was Yugi Muto and went to your class. Next To him were his friends Tristan, Joey, and Tea.

Sometimes you saw them playing Duel Monsters together but you were way too shy to ask if you could join and play with them (or more accurate, against them).

You took a deep breath, then walked up to them. At least you wanted to say "Hi"

"Oh (l/n)-san are you here to watch the tournament?" Yugi asked you directly.

"Well... Actually, I am here to play too."

They seem surprised by your answer. "Wow! You are playing Duel Monsters. I didn't know that!" Yugi then said.

You just nodded.
"Ha! But I don't think a girl like you could beat Yugi! He's the Best"
Joey shouted confidant.

You could see how Yugi was slightly uncomfortable with that statement.
