The girls had settled into a comfortable routine, Anna would make breakfast, while Nicole prepared for work. Nicole mostly left her on her own in the mornings, but by noon her friend would leave her workplace and the two girls would go exploring.
It was sundown, and the girls were sharing a large tub of ice cream in front of Nicole's large TV, watching crappy romcoms and giggling like schoolgirls. They ended their movie marathon by watching the notebook, and even though the two friends watched it together, Anna was almost in tears as the movie credits rolled in.
They settled into a comfortable silence as they laid down side by side on the floor, both of them collecting their thoughts.
Anna broke the silence. "He cared."
Nicole faced her friend. "What?"
"But then he stopped, I can't exactly point when but he stopped. He stopped asking about my day, he stopped calling. He stopped caring about me." She concluded brokenly.
Nicole knew enough about her best friend that she didn't interrupt. She allowed her to slowly pick up her thoughts as she traced a pattern on her friend's hand. It was soothing for both of them.
"I thought he was busy or work was stressful but that clearly wasn't it," she said after a long bout of silence.
"Then I concluded it was me, maybe I was doing something wrong, maybe I pushed him away somehow, but I tried my best to fix it," she concluded sobbing silently.
By now Nicole had wrapped her friend In a big hug silently urging her to continue.
"H-he's engaged, Nicole."
Nicole could feel the weight of the grief in her friend's tone. Anger was an understatement of what she was feeling on behalf of her friend, but Anna needed her and she would just have to set her anger aside for now and comfort her friend.
No words were needed to be said after Anna's break down, the only thing Nicole could offer her friend now was the reassurance that it would get better and that was enough for now.
................................. ..................
Two days after the breakdown, the ominous mood had been lifted and Anna was feeling more like herself. Her mood had improved so much that when Nicole had suggested they hit the club Anna had heartily agreed, shocking her friend.
They spent the whole day in the mall, from getting their hair done down to a shopping spree, Nicole made sure they had all their bases covered dragging Anna everywhere.
"Where are we heading to now?"
"Stop complaining, this is our last stop."
"You said that two stores ago."
"Yes, that was before I remembered we had to get accessories to match our outfits, But this is really the last stop, my legs are in fact killing me so count your luck," Nicole snickered as the reached their last stop.
"Do we really need anything from here," Anna sighed as she tilted her head at the Victoria secrets signboard.
"Yes, we do. Every new outfit deserves a new set of lingerie," was Nicole's cheeky come back as they walked into the store each armed with shopping bags.
When they got home, Anna was almost too tired to prepare for the exciting evening ahead, but it was hard not to get into the mood seeing as her friend was literally buzzing with excitement.
"Why don't you save your dancing till we get to the club". Curling her hair Anna asked, trying hard to concentrate on the task at hand while laughing at her friend's ridiculous moves.
"Just because." Nicole continued her dancing while slathering herself with moisturizer.
When the girls were satisfied with their looks, they head out to have the most fun they could get from the night.
The line to the club was unsurprisingly not long, seeing as it was invites only. On entering the club, Anna gave a glance of appreciation at the classy interior of the club. The club looked more like a celebrity hang out than an actual club. She was sure she could recognize some A-listers from the light crowd. The dark theme of the club made it look like something off a movie set, with dark strobe lights, and brass topped bar tables.
She shot her friend a questioning look. "Since when did we become celebrities?"
"We aren't," Nicole replied.
"Then how-
"We know the owner." Nicole cut her off impatiently glancing at her phone.
She didn't give Anna time to ask more questions as she steered her towards the bar.
"Now my friend is time to start the party." She smiled, giving the bartender their order.
"Two mojitos for two beautiful ladies coming up." The bartender winked. They giggled at the charming bartender.
"On the house from the boss." He concluded, handing them their drinks. They thanked him and took their seat, sipping their drinks, and soaking the feel of the club.
Nicole kept on glancing back like she was looking for something fueling Anna's suspicion.
"Why do you keep checking your phone? Are we waiting for someone?"
"Actually, we are, remember the surprise I promised you?"
"First of all, you didn't mention anything about a surprise and I thought we agreed that you weren't going to set me up with anyone?"
"I believe your exact words were no setting me up with random strangers". Nicole quoted raising a perfectly drawn eyebrow.
"Same thing, since it isn't a random stranger, who exactly are we waiting for?"
"That should be me," an amused voice stated from behind her.
Anna swirled violently from shock, spilling little of her drink on herself in the process. She spared Nicole a glance seeing amusement in her gaze before she fully faced their visitor.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
So this chapter is a little bit shorter than I would have liked, but I wanted it to end there. It's like 1 am here and I'm a little bit sleep deprived so I have a legitimate excuse plus I think I'm coming down with something( it's not corona😂, just a stomach bug).
Anyway, thanks for your support, and as usual constructive criticism is highly appreciated.
Don't forget to click on the little star at the bottom of your screen and to comment also. Thank you.
So who do you guys think is Anna's surprise visitor? And why did Anna seem shocked to see him? Is the story making sense so far or am I rushing it too much or going too slow. Let me know in the comment below what you think so far. I just found out how to dedicate a chapter😂 so if you want a dedication comment here👉
Love,
Nicky.
