"Esme! If you don't start packing now you're going to miss the airship!" My older brother, Evan, called from the other room.

I looked at the piles of clothes, books, and other little trinkets across my room. Packing for Beacon was certainly a lot harder than I thought it would be. After all, I have no idea what the weather is like. Atlas was quite cold due to the whole floating-in-the-sky situation. However I'd imagine Vale would be a lot warmer.

I've lived in Atlas my whole life, as my father was a high ranking officer under General Ironwood. I even got a full ride scholarship to go to Atlas Academy. My parents insisted it would be safer, however at Beacon Academy I would get a fresh start.

I've wanted to be a Huntress ever since I was little. Looking down from the city you could see the Grimm running rampant in Mantle and lurking in the tundra surrounding it. It just made me sad, especially since the creatures themselves couldn't help it. Even Evan wanted to be a Hunter, but that was before he had his accident. He was the real reason I aspired to become a Huntress.

Evan is four years older than me, and he wanted to attend Atlas Academy more than anything. The summer before his first term, he began to design his weapon. It was amazing, a bow with arrow heads full of dust. The quiver could even extend into a shield if need be. However, when he was developing the arrowheads, specifically the ones full of Combustion Dust, something went wrong. The arrows blew up in his face, leaving him blind in his left eye. His left arm up to his shoulder had to be amputated. My brother was left discouraged and scared, and sent in a letter to notify General Ironwood he wouldn't be able to attend.

A soft thud pulled me out of my thoughts "Es, c'mon, you've barely even packed!" Evan sighed, leaning against my door frame.

"Hush, you," I groaned, "I get distracted easily!"

He chucked in response, grabbing one of my duffel bags that was semi full. He dumped it out, and out spilled about fifty different kinds of weapon add-ons and modules. Evan turned to me with the 'really?' look written all over his face.

"They have their own weapon lab there! I can modify my weapon with all kinds of different blades and chains!" I jumped up and down excitedly.

"Nerd," Evan whispered quietly, to which I punched him in the arm, laughing.

It took a few hours and a lot of organization (Evan was always better at it then I was), but finally I had one trunk and one duffel bag full of stuff to take to Beacon. Most of the space was taken up by clothes and weapon supplies. However I had also put some of my most favorite trinkets from home. There was my books of course, and finally a framed picture of my family.

My mother and father held hands while Evan and I played in the snow. It was taken a year or two before his accident, and by now it felt odd to see him with two arms.

"C'mon loser, we need to get you to the launch deck." My brother said under his breath.

What felt like months, but was actually minutes later, I was standing on the airship with the other Beacon attendants from Atlas and Mantle. I didn't recognize most of the other students, except for Weiss Schnee. Her and I saw each other often at state dinners, and I guess you could say we were kinda friends, so I made my way over.

"Hey Schnee," I exclaimed once I was standing in front of her. "You ready?"

She almost smiled, however replied with her normal coldness "Of course, I'm always ready," Then she turned and whispered, "It's nice to see you Alivander."

I tried to fight my smile.
