Wolves use communication in different ways and one of the ways I know is by there face (May sound weird)
If a wolf has it's ears up and its eyes a little wide then it is calm
If a wolf has it's ears flat then it is frightened
If a wolf has its mouth opened showing part of its canines and the eyes are narrowed then it is threatening
If a wolf has it mouth wide open then that means it is aggressive
