Life in the middle of a cemetry doesn't turn out as bad as I thought it would. I have my own bed at Mrs. Sims, which is a luxury I never got to enjoy in my old hometown. Although I sometimes miss my younger siblings, I have to admit that the feeling of a warm bed to myself without cold feet pressing against me is heavenly for a change. And it's quite a big one aswell. Bed I mean, change aswell I guess. All I have gathered up about Mrs. Sims son is that he must be quite a strong fella that went into the navy about four years ago. Seems like he only returns to Tillsbury, when their ship docks in the harbour. Mrs. Sims sometimes goes up to the cliffs and watches the ships coming in, waiting for him to come home. It has turned in somewhat of a routine for us to stand up there. Mrs. Sims eyes are set on the horizon and mine closed, having me feeling the breeze run through my hair and for once I actually feel free.
My daydreaming is suddenly interrupted: «Everly you really shouldn't leave your hair hanging around like that. You'll look like a scarecrow walking back. God forbid, even the dead will be scared of you!» Mrs. Sims melancholy has faded as quickly as the sunset and she is back to her normal self again. She furiously pounds her umbrella into the ground. «You come here! Tsss... looking like that. What will people think?» She tries to put my auburn locks into a tight bun, similar to the one that is perched on her head. However my hair is not complying whatsoever which leaves Mrs. Sims pressing her hands into her sides and stomping down the hill. «Birdsnest.», I hear her mutter through her teeth and I can't help myself but letting out a small giggle.
But it's late and I do have to hurry to make it to the pub on time. I've started waitering in the evening, to give somewhat back to Mrs. Sims, although she doesn't want to see a penny from me. «
