If a lowly human had the ability to turn back time, Wooyoung would've done it in a heartbeat. His life was neither good nor bad.....just somewhere in the middle. But his overwhelming sense of justice betrayed him one night, and that was how his perfectly ordinary life slipped through his fingers like sand.
He thought about the events of that one instant quite frequently.....always revisiting the two choices he was given, and regretting everyday what he decided to do.
It was some ungodly hour of the night, and the moon was the only source of light that illuminated the school campus. Insects and nocturnal animals could be heard crying to each other, never leaving a breath of silence to settle.
Wooyoung had been given an errand that day, having gone into town in order to complete it. Had he known it would've been much more of an endeavour than he'd anticipated, perhaps a polite declination would've been more fitting.
Arriving back at school sometime after half twelve at night, only Mother Nature was providing enough noise to suppress his fears.
The principal had given him a flashlight in case it did take longer than assumed, and Wooyoung was more than thankful for it now. He trailed the light over the black tarmac beneath his feet, then up towards the windows of the unnecessarily large school building. All the lights were off, and the purple haired male could only imagine how creepy those rooms would be at this hour.
He then flicked the flashlight towards the two dorms located on either side of the grand structure. One was for humans, and the other for vampires. Lights were still alive through certain windows dotted along the vampire dormitories. The humans, however, were very much asleep.
"I hope Seonghwa's awake....." Wooyoung breathed heavily as he picked up his pace. His roommate was conveniently his best friend and someone who shared his views on the brutal blood suckers inhabiting their planet.
The sound of hushed yet urgent whispers caught his attention, though the teen wasn't a curious boy by nature. He was nearing the little alley between the human dorms and the school, the voices only getting that bit louder the closer he got.
Just ignore it, be quiet, don't slow down, Wooyoung told himself internally, fumbling to turn his flashlight off before accidentally stumbling and collapsing against the wall. Shit.
The muttering never stopped though, and he believed he was in the clear. Softly edging closer to the gap between the walls, Wooyoung thought he could quickly sprint to the next building and be done with this nightmare of a situation.....but he was sadly mistaken.
The shrill scream of a young girl made him halt in his tracks. That annoying little portion of his conscience that always stopped him from ignoring wrongdoings, hit hard. The purplette reluctantly turned his head to the side, narrowing his eyes in the dark when he saw the silhouette of a girl.....a human no less, pinned to the wall by a boy.
The aura of this stranger was different from usual vampires though, and Wooyoung knew all too well what the reason for it was.
Pureblood power.
The forestry surrounding the campus came to life as his anger spiked, the creatures of the night almost encouraging him to prevent what was about to happen.
It could've gone one of two ways;
~Wooyoung stepped in, saved the female from a horrible fate that ensued a pureblood bite....
Or
~He ran away and pretended that he saw nothing. But to live with the guilt of knowing would've been an almost harsher fate in itself.Ugh, I'm going to regret this, the purplette thought, walking over to the pair quickly, though with his guard up and cautious nature present.
"Oh," the vampire's dark and alluring voice chuckled with amusement, "We have a guest."
The girl turned her head, eyes wide and heart clearly pounding from how flushed her cheeks were. Wooyoung, completely acting on adrenaline, ran in and pulled at the other boy's arm.
The girl hissed, stepping back though looking more dazed than panicked. Something about her didn't really scream 'scared'.
The blood lust in the demon's eyes was hypnotising. Deep crimson red with small flecks of black throughout the irises strived to engrave Wooyoung, but the human wasn't falling for this. He never did, and never would.
"Stop acting out," the purplette growled, throwing a warning glare at the ravenette, "No human deserves this."
The taller, tilting his head with a sick sort of smile, ran his index finger over Wooyoung's hairline, leaning in and whispering, "You haven't even asked her if she's in danger."
The younger shoved him away, surprising the other to no end, since there wasn't a being around that could resist a vampire with pure blood.
Behind them, the sound of a body hitting the ground resonated throughout the air, enticing both to peer down at the female's body which had collapsed.
"Fainted," the ravenette hummed, flicking his dark fringe off his forehead. "Happy?"
"What....what did you do?"
"Nothing. I merely lost control tonight, and will be more careful next time when my blood lust hits."
The younger looked up at him curiously, taking another step back as he stared into those unnaturally red eyes. "Did you bite her?"
"No. But I would've," the older sighed, brushing past Wooyoung and stooping down to pick her up. "I suppose a 'thank you' is in order, yes?"
"No. I don't need anything from you!" The shorter snapped. "Just be more careful and don't break the rules this school has decided on."
With the girl bridal style in his arms, the beautiful stranger stood once again and turned to view the other. "First of all, Darling, I don't take orders from humans. Second of all, this has never happened before, so stop treating this incident as if I'm some sort of monster."
"My name isn't 'darling'! It's Wooyoung!"
"Pleasure. I'm San."
Shit! He just played me, didn't he? The younger gasped to internally whilst inwardly cursing himself for giving San his name. When he next shifted his gaze to the vampire's face, he noticed that those red eyes were replaced with a deep coco colour that suited him much better.
"Where will you take her?" He ended up asking, having no words to fight him with.
"The dorms, of course. And fear not, Darling, I'm not going to kill her on the way over."
"Ugh, I gave you my name! Stop calling me that!"
"But you get so worked up. I like the reaction." Before the purplette could argue with him further, he started to trail towards the opening. The moon was now high in the sky, shimmering it's bluish hue over the grass lining the pathways.
Wooyoung stood alone once the older had disappeared, staring at the darkened ground and bringing his arms up to rest around his own waist.
San, he thought, moving one foot in front of the other to make his way back to his own dorm, I can't believe that was him....
