I grasp the cold rope made of twine, calluses forming on my palm. The freezing cold air bites at my face, needles of winter stabbing at my skin.
"WHY DO YOU DO THIS?" I scream, the tears on my face turning to ice.
"Because you need this..." Whispers a slick, menacing voice. I gasp for breath as the air grabs at me, and my arms feel as if they are being pulled from their sockets. I peer down below me, and instantly regret it. The six thousand foot drop into the freezing cold ocean is enough to give anyone vertigo.
"You need this..." Repeats the voice, and Its hands pull at mine, trying to tear them away from my only hope; the rope.
It succeeds in pulling my left hand off, and I find myself hanging six thousand feet over an icy cold ocean with one hand, and even my last hand is slipping off of the rope.
"Just let go..." It murmurs. "You're safe."
"NO I'M NOT! NOT WITH YOU!" I shriek into the frigid air. I feel Its anger and its invisible arms wrapping themselves around me.
"You're the last one," It says gleefully. "This is for your own good."
And just like that, it pulls my hand off of the rope and I fall.
I don't scream. I don't gasp for breath. I accept my fate, because It won. It truly had defeated me, and there isn't anything I can do except try to keep my dignity, and simply fall. Not necessarily with class, but I don't make a big deal of it. I don't flail my arms and legs or scream, I just hug my arms against my chest and let myself fall silently.
Just before my body strikes the water, my arms are yanked up.
"What?" I mutter to myself, adrenaline coursing through my veins. I take several thankful breaths of air.
"You..." It whispers to an unknown entity, seemingly very close to me.
"You can't kill it!" Another voice replies loudly, almost a scream in my ear. The wind whips my short hair around, and I blow it out of my face.
"Make yourself present to me." I command the voices.
"Later. Right now I need to do this." Says the voice that had saved me.
The force lets go of my arms, and I, expecting to fall into the ocean, scream, but I land on an invisible force field.
The wind intensifies, and it whistles. The waves around me grow larger, and they move faster. My hair flies behind my head, and the freezing wind in my face feels like needles.
"Stop!" I scream, but I get no reply. Then, something knocks me out, and my vision goes blank.
