tails was in the middle on making an invention that could make his age a little older. When he tested the machine something went off and it went haywired. After the process was complete he did aged to a 18 year old, but it had swapped his gender completely. Seems to me that Tails will have a hard time getting use to his new body or worse of all anyone going after him.
