It was a cold morning when Percy arose from his deep slumber. He shivered at the cold air, but closed his eyes at the light streaming in. "Too early",he thought aloud, as he rubbed his eyes and hopped out of bed.
He let out a quick yawn before walking to his closet to pick out an outfit. It was days like these he hated, cold, bright, morning, and Monday. Today he decided he would wear a school sweater and some cacky pants with black tennis shoes. Quickly, he got dressed and headed to the bathroom to brush his hair and teeth. He always hated brushing his hair in the morning, it was far messier than a normal person. He grunted as he brushed his messy brown hair out of his face, wishing he could just cut it all off. His hazel eyes stared back at him as he took a glimpse into the mirror. "Bleh", he said, unenthusiastically. After finishing his morning prep, he walked downstairs to greet his family a good morning. As he continued down the stairs, he noticed a stern look on his father's face. He also noticed a newspaper in his father's hand. "What is this ungodly crap",he yelled, as if announcing it to the world. "Calm down",his mother whispered, putting a hand on his father's back. Percy grunted, and then continued to walk down the long stair way. Finally reaching the end, Percy spoke. "Good morning". "Ah, good morning son",Percy's dad mumbled.
Percy sighed and sat at the table with the rest of his family. He had two younger brothers, and a younger sister. Their names were Juliet, James, and Julian. His mom always picked at him, saying they were best buds because they were the only 'Ps' in their family. Her being Penelope, his father's Jered. His mother had told him that she and his father argued about his name being either Percy or Julian. "We would have had two Julians!",she would laugh.
After sitting down, Percy decided to bring up the topic. "What was in the newspaper?"he asked. "More crap about the gay rights equality and whatever, dang sinners they be",he responded.
Percy looked down at his shoes, not responding. "Aye boy",his father asked,"what's got your tongue in a knot?" "Oh nothing,"he responded,"just thinking". "Alright then", his father said bluntly,"keep your secrets".
After a few minutes of awkward tension, his mother looked at the tiny clock that hung on their wall. "It's time you be going",she said,"you're going to be late". "Yes ma'am",Percy said.
Percy put his hands together, while whispering a quick prayer. He then walked near his siblings to make sure they did the same, and grabbed their hands creating a sibling chain. They exited the church and walked to the run down car, leaving nothing but dust behind.
