A Burden

Miss. Kim

   The woman introduced herself to me as Miss. Kim, she was a very wealthy and beautiful woman with long straight black hair that fell to her shoulders, and her eyes were the softest shade of brown anyone had seen. What made her more angel like was her kindness she had given me. 

"I'm quite sure that we can fix your hair, but I will have to cut it. That is if you don't mind." She stated running a hand down my matted hair and started brushing lightly.She then, turned to walk into the bathroom to fetch a pair of scissors.  I had no idea as to why she was doing this, but she seemed genuinely concerned about my health and It filled the dark emptiness that was my heart.

As I looked around her small hotel room, my eyes fixed on a beautiful box. On it was decorated with all different kinds of jewels and beads. The sudden change in lighting mixed with the jewels started to hurt my eyes, so I turned away to protect my sight.

"Are you okay?" She asked lightly, coming from out the bathroom, her hands filled with all kinds of hair products. "I was thinking, would you like to come live with me in The United States?" She tilted her head to the side. "I know this is all much, and we only met. However, you deserve a good home."

A sudden feeling of acceptance filled my heart, and without any hesitation I nodded. "I would love to, but my family here-." I started, but I was overwhelmed with harsh emotions. I swallowed them back and looked into the eyes of the woman who had saved me. 

"Why did they do this to me?" I asked quietly and Miss. Kim smiled with comfort. "They do this to people who they know won't go against them." She once again lifted a hand to stroke my hair. "Now, it is your turn to feel beautiful." She replied taking a pair of scissors and snipping away at my hair. 

The long black locks fell to the floor and I stared in amazement. For the first time in forever, I felt beautiful, and safe.
