CHAPTER 17: Reflections (Mar'i POV)
PART ONE:
I feel the anger burn through me like fire in my veins, the cool wind of the night sky contrasting sharply with my reddened face. Approaching the ship, I slow my flying down moving to the side of the ship next to a small window. With my back to the surface of the metal, I listen for any moment inside. Hearing nothing, I slowly lean forward and face the window pane, peaking slightly inside the aircraft.
The first thing I see is a map of the ship as a holagraphic projection in the centre of a large control room. Looking closer at the map, I see three main floors; the top floor for weapons, the main floor, and lower floor which held all captives and prisoner cells.
Getting ahead of myself I pull slightly on the window, perfectly aware of the possibility of Gordanian guards on the other side. Lifting the metal window frame up slightly I was able to create a small slit in the corner of the frame, allowing me to open the window without obvious damage. Slipping inside, I power up, checking around me for signs of attack. Realising that I had broken in undetected, I run directly towards the balcony overlooking the hologram. On the bottom floor hologram, there were rows of red lights in the shape of small dots, each dot representing a cell. And amongst the sea of red dots, a lone green dot caught my attention.
That must mean the cells occupied. Mom's in there, I conclude.
Mentally noting the location of the green dot I turn to my right and follow the long corridor.
Finally I reach a large door. Opening it there is a room full of rows of cells. I slowly walk passed each cell, each one with a red dot.
I need one with green.
Suddenly a flash of green catches my eye on my left. I quickly run towards the cell that had caught my eye and look through the bars. My eyes meet Star lying on the cell floor, her hands and feet bound by handcuffs made of some sort of force-field like energy to prevent her from using her Starbolts or strength.
"Mom!" I whisper through the bars, getting her attention. "I'm here."
"Mar'i" She smiled, crawling over to the bars of the cell, "Thank X'hal you-LOOK OUT!" she screamed in fear.
Naturally, I duck my head down and feel a breeze fly past my head as a metal axe struck the cell bar from behind me. I must have triggered an alarm. I turn around and face the half a dozen Gordanian prison guards that had formed in a semi circle around me, trapping my back against the locked cell.
I wasn't scared, I'd been brought up for situations like this, I'd fought hundreds of Gordanians in my childhood, these guys wouldn't be a problem.
I crack my knuckles and fire up my Starbolts and I see the Gordanians step back slightly, obviously not aware that I had powers. I almost chuckle as their scaly green eyes as they stare at my power engulfed fists. I use this to my advantage as instead of throwing Starbolts from my hands as they expected me to do; I shot beams of energy from my eyes directly towards them.
The fire burnt through my eyes scorching the scales of the first few Gordanians in front of me as the force of the blast threw their injured bodies backwards, taking out the next row of guards. With the closest guards sprawled a cross the floor, either trapped by other troops bodies or conscious themselves.
I take a deep breath and let my eyes return to their usual selves. Weakened slightly from using so much energy, I stumble a little and turn around to face the bars of my mother's cell.
"I did not know you could do that!" my mother looked at me in shock, referencing me taking down at least twenty troops with just my eye beams.
"You taught on my 12th birthday." I chuckle at the memory of a pre-teen me testing my new ability on a rock outside the Titan's tower, and me almost lasering the top of my father's head off as my mother laughed from the window.
