POKEMON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS RULES

(Authors' note - This is a special chapter that gives the reader a little more information about the lore/world of the fanfic. It's not exactly related to the main plot, but reading it may make the story more enjoyable (because you will be able to understand the characters and their dialogue in more detail). THE 14th POKEMON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 

1.) What is the Pokemon World Championship?

The Pokemon World Championship is played to determine the world champion in the sport of Pokemon Battles. The schedule has settled on a four-year cycle with a championship held in every leap year. The International Commission of Pokemon Championships (I.C.P.C.) is the governing body for this global competition, and it looks into all the necessities for the execution of the tournament. The Top 64 qualified players play in the World Championship Finals in a single-elimination type format to determine the Pokemon World Champion. In every Edition of the Pokemon World Championship, the rules for qualification into the World Championship FInals are defined by I.C.P.C. one month before the Ranking Season for the Edition begins.

2.) Qualification Rules for 14th Pokemon World Championships. (Updated as of  2nd January)

There primarily 4 ways to qualify for the World Championship Finals. The methods are listed in detail below:-

a) Ranked Qualification. (24 positions for the World Championship Finals )

Ranking Season for the Pokemon World Championships officially starts from the 2nd of February and ends on the 30th of  September. During the Ranking Season, all registered trainers will be allowed to play in ranked matches to increase their global ranking. Once a trainer has sufficient rank points, he/she is featured in the Top 10000 Ranking Leaderboard. Once a trainer is featured in the rankings, the number of matches matched up by the Online Rotom Drone System is reduced drastically (This is to prevent excessive matchup waiting time because of the skill-based matchmaking system of the Rotom Drones). Instead, the Ranked Trainers are allowed entry to special events like the Battle Fests and Weighted Cups. (Explained in detail in the Appendix)

At the end of the Ranking Season, the Top 200 Ranked Trainers (Global Rank 1-200) will qualify for the World Championship Preliminaries. The World Championship Preliminaries is a Swiss-style (No-Eliminations) Tournament wherein the trainers have to play against each other in a 6-vs-6 format, registering their teams of 6 before each round. The Top 24 Trainers (as per aggregate scores) in the Preliminaries will then be qualifying for the World Championship Final 64.

b) Wildcard Qualification. (12 positions for the World Championship Final 64 )
