Two Weeks Ago
Since Clyd was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car, he needs to be confined for about three weeks in a hospital bed. So, we occasionally visit him once in a day, except for Barbara.
Barbara stays on Clyd’s room for about six days now. She wouldn’t want to go to school as she says that she had asked the dean about giving her a whole week of school-break―of which I can’t really believe is true. She would just lie around the room and stare at Clyd, who is unconscious on his bed, and it is morning ‘til evening, every day.
Well, she volunteered after knowing no one’s going to take care of Clyd anymore. Sadly, Clyd is now considered as an orphan.
Today, morning probably math hour, we decided to cut school and stay with both of them, Barbara and Clyd, instead.
“Hey” I said after seeing Barbara just about to enter Clyd’s room.
“Hey, I thought you both have schools to attend today?” She asks but I can tell she’s glad we’re here.
She wears such a wide smile the moment she sees Ara, and literally wears a knee-length skirt and a sweater-dress.
“We decided to not to go to school today―Just for the day” Ara tells Barbara who’s now looking at me after hugging Barbara tight. Ara grabs my left arm and tilting her head―probably wants me to finish her explanation, so I did.
“You’re always taking care of Clyd, like yah you need to, so―Um, and you want to of course―so we decided to stay with you today and so that you could take a rest even just for a day.”I tell her then narrowed y brows confused of what I just said. “Anyway, that’s it.”I said nodding a bit facing Barbara and goes to Ara who’s now giving me a forced smile in her face.
“And in fact, Doc. Patrol said he might wake up probably after three weeks or so.” Ara explained while Barbara intently listens. Doc. Patrol’s the one who’s taking care of Clyd’s condition.
“Right.” Barbara sighed about the three weeks. “By the way, where’s Carol?” Barbara asks taking a glance on the halls but didn’t see Carol.
“Um―She said she can’t come for she needs to do something important.” Ara explains then said, “You know, Class Valedictorian”―teasing Carol’s absence.
“Alrighty” Barbara laughs leading our way inside Clyd’s room and me standing in back of Ara as she walks leaving her head and eyes fixated at me.
“What?” I mimicked with a shrug.
She just laughed again. “Crazy Bitch.” I murmured. We stepped inside and saw Clyd with bandages in his head wrap around just how it is for the past five days and lying down straight with his arms on his stomach.
God! He’s still lying down like a dead meat.
The moment he was hit by a car, he couldn’t remember our names or anything about us, the doctor said it must’ve been because of concussion―then Clyd fainted.
We were scared about the idea of Clyd forgetting who we are and all the things we’ve been through. It’s like losing a friend, if you think about it. We were afraid that once he woke up he might never remember our names or us anymore.
Anyway, Doc. Patrol said Clyd will be back to his normal state once he woke up. So―matter’s solved.
I sat beside Barbara in a long couch and look at Clyd and still having a picture of him like a dead meat lying on a hospital bed. I can’t help it.
