"Do you think I'll get pregnant??"
He looked at her with wide eyes.
"Are you crazy??? Why the hell would you be pregnant??" he yelled.
"Huh...!!" She was a bit afraid of him now.
He calmed himself and asked her softly,
"Love, I didn't get you. Why w...
Rishaan began to explain things to Mahira in a gentle and scientific way. He did not jump into topics of physical intimacy or human desires. He started with the basics, like what happens between a man and a woman to create a baby.
"Do you know why you get periods?" he asked.
Mahira immediately felt uncomfortable discussing her periods with her husband.
And why wouldn't she?
She had grown up in a society where talking about menstruation was considered shameful. Girls were taught to keep it a secret and never speak of it openly.
In India, even the mention of the topic has long been a taboo. Cultural and social beliefs continue to act as barriers to open conversation and awareness. In many regions, menstruation is still seen as dirty or impure.
Rishaan understood her discomfort.
"There is nothing wrong with talking about your periods to your own husband," he said softly. "Do not be embarrassed. It is a natural process."
His words helped her relax.
"No," she whispered.
"You never asked anyone about it?" he asked.
"We were not supposed to question these things," she said innocently.
He sighed and began to explain the purpose of menstruation and how the female reproductive system works.
Along the way, she asked him very childlike questions.
"Do men get them too?" she asked, wide-eyed.
He answered patiently, even though some of her questions were so innocent they made him smile. Some were even a little embarrassing, but he never judged her.
Their kissing and make-out sessions became more frequent. Mahira started to feel things she had never experienced before. She did not fully understand what was happening inside her, but she knew one thing for sure: she liked the way Rishaan made her feel. His touch was comforting, exciting, and full of love.
She wanted to be close to him all the time. In his embrace, she felt safe. She surrendered herself to him without hesitation. Whatever he did to her always felt good.
Yet, despite their growing intimacy, something always felt incomplete. She often asked him why they stopped before going further. Rishaan would just smile and say, "Now is not the time" or "You are not ready yet."
But Mahira had made up her mind.
On their six-month anniversary, they both confessed their love for each other.
They were on a romantic date in their own balcony, enjoying the rare quiet time together. His schedule kept him busy, so moments like these were precious.
