"Aw, did I scare you? Sorry about that" the new precense said, straightening their hat. "I-I..." I stammered, searching for words. But I wasn't like this because I was startled... well yes I was... but it was also because.
They were stunning
They had curly red hair, which was tucked under a green hat. The hat was wrapped in a silky red ribbon that held an old crumpled map. Their outfit complimented their hat, all complete with a pocket watch.
Oddly, they didn't grow impatient as they held out their hand. Reluctantly I grapped it and they helped me out of the old fountain. I grumbled silently at the sight of my soaking wet clothes. "Don't worry, those'll dry quickly enough" the person smiled. "Anyways, where to? We're in the crystal forest right now, but there's also a pond nearby and a lovely bakery down the road". I looked at them stunned. "There's more? Where even am I? Who are you?". The recipient of all my questions laughed slightly. "Easy on the questions, sugar"
Did they just call me sugar?
"However, I will answer them. Of course there's more, you're in Wonderland! And you don't need to worry about my details, I am simply the Wonderland Guide" they paused for a second, before tutting and looking back at me. "And not to repeat any mistaked and misgendering, I use they/them pronouns. Should've told the past people too". I let out a small laugh as I slowly let go of his hand. "So Wonderland? Like Alice in Wonderland?".
The guide simply shook his head. "So many people bring up this Alice... no, this isn't like it... at least from what I've heard. The closest we have to Alice is a young girl named Alicia who came here a few months back but... she isn't the closest thing to nice.". I nodded in understanding. So... a different Wonderland unlike the ones Alice went through? Count me in.
"So where to?" The Wonderland Guide repeated, a warm smile on their face. I gave a smile back. "Why don't we see the pond?". They nodded and grabbed my arm gently yet eagerly. Our footsteps resounded against the stone path as I glanced back at the warbling fountain.
"You're going to love it here, trust me"
