"Wanna play two truths and a lie?" Yangyang asks.

You squint. "What?"

"You know, you tell the person something about yourself, and it has to be true. Well, two of them-"

You cut him off. "Yangyang, I know what two truths and a lie is, you don't need to be all condescending."

"Me? Condescending? Never."

"I'm this close to punching you."

Yangyang flashes a thumbs up and quickly moves away from you, out of punching range.

Coward.

You guys keep walking, and Yangyang opens his mouth.

"No." You say.

"Ouch. Anyways, I was born in Taiwan, I once ate a maggot, and I've binge-watched all of Beyblade."

"Maggot."

Yangyang nods. "Yeah. I've eaten maggots on two separate occasions."

...

...

...

"I have nothing to say to you."

"Then don't."

You keep walking until you get to a turn, whereupon Yangyang heads left.

"Is this safe?"

"We removed the killer robots a year ago, so yeah. Should be."

You shake your head.

"Oh, come on, it isn't that bad. Your turn to go."

"...you're infuriating."

"You haven't gone yet, that's not how you play the game."

"Oh, shut up."

"Whoa, what happened to being nice to me?"

"You act nice, you get nice."

Yangyang considers this for a second. "Cool. I'll act super nice."

You smile. "Alright. I slept with a stuffed animal until I graduated secondary school, I hate the taste of mint, and I once broke my arm when I fell off my chair."

"...the mint?"

"Yeah. Mint chocolate is good!"

"Seriously! Hendery always pretends to throw up when I get it."

"Ugh, Hendery."

"Oh, Y/N, he's not that bad. I mean, yeah, he's annoying, and stupid, and uses other people's toothpaste and then forgets to cap it, and thinks he's the coolest thing since sliced bread, and." He stops. "I'm not helping your opinion of him much."

"Definitely not," You agree.

"Change of subject. Did you bring your stuffed animal with you?" He asks.

"No. Hendery didn't give me enough time."

"Alrighty, moving on. I once went fishing and didn't get anything, and then a fish jumped onto the pier where I was sitting, and then as soon as I grabbed it, it thrashed around, hit me in the face, and jumped back in."

You snort, imagining a seven year old wrestling with a fish.

"Oh, don't laugh at this one. It gets worse. Once, in grade school, I liked this one girl, so I got her a little teddy bear and wrote her a card, but I was too scared to actually tell her I liked her. You know, because she was pretty and popular, and I was this quiet little loser kid."

"Awww, I'm sure you weren't."

"No, I definitely was. The thing is, the popular boy in my class also liked her, and he was kind of a jerk. So I just left it on her desk. She really liked it, and everyone was asking who it was. And guess who stepped up?"

"That's horrible."

"Yeah, when I left Germany, they were still dating."

You place a hand on his shoulder and kind of pat it awkwardly before removing the hand. "It's okay. Everything works out in the end, you know?"

He nods. "She wasn't that great. I reflect upon those times and think about how much simpler life was."

"So, are we still playing, or just over sharing things with strangers?"

"Why not both?" He responds.

Yangyang smiles widely. Your heart skips a beat.

"Alright," You say. "I fall in love too easily."

"Why is that a bad thing?" Yangyang asks.

You laugh. "Are you joking? Love is the worst. All messy and emotional and it's always, always unrequited. It can rot for all I care."

As if to respond to your words, a twig gets snagged on your hair and pulls it.

"Ow!"

You try to get it out, but it's gotten knotted, and you resign yourself to a fate of a bald patch.

Plants. So rude and for what.

Yangyang makes his way back to you. "Wait, don't move." It's hard to focus when he's up close. All... boy. And stuff.

Are you touch starved? Yeah.

He places one hand on your back, steadying you. His hands are careful, removing the twig. He's way taller than you, so you've got a closeup view of his new sweatshirt.

"Got it," he says, voice dropping.

You die internally. He tosses the twig back into the bushes. "And I don't think love is a weakness," He adds seriously. "You have a limited time on this earth, after all, and love is one of those things that make it better. Believe it from me."

"Why?"

He coughs. "Uh. Nothing."

"How did you join, Yangyang?"

"It's... I told you already."

You shake your head. "How did you really join?"

His eyes harden. "It's confidential."

He's unfocused now, not looking at you in the eyes.

"Really-"

"-Please don't push it, Y/N," he says, cutting you off. His gaze is so earnest you feel bad for pushing the subject, but you're no stranger to guilt tripping.

Yangyang stops incessantly chatting, and you two keep walking, but you have a strange feeling about this boy and whatever secrets he hasn't told you.

Pretty boys and pretty gardens, mazes and and unsolved mysteries. You have better things to do than flirt.

There's something bigger behind this mansion, these boys and their games, even their mafia branch. And you're just the person to get to the bottom of it.
