Avery sighed in delight, staring up at the starry sky through the trees. She could feel the breeze on her skin as she turned slowly in circles, and the smell of nature invaded her senses.
Giggling quietly to herself, she realised that this must be what freedom feels like. And for a second she considered staying like that forever.
But this wasn't real, and she had a job to do.
Loud shouting drew her attention from the sky and to four boys running her way in what looked like terror. They stopped almost right in front of her, but she knew they could not see her. Just as she could not fully see them, they were like blurs, barely visible to her but she knew they were there.
These were the sons of Ipswich, she mused to herself. At least, that was what Chase Collins had called them.
"This is all your fault Reid!" The tallest of them shouted, glaring at another. "I told you about using, and you didn't listen to me and now what? HUH. We can't go back."
"I didn't do shit! I haven't been using so stop blaming me Caleb!" Another figure shouted in reply.
For a moment, guilt consumed her. Whoever Reid was, this really wasn't his fault. They hadn't been caught for their gifts, they had been sold out. And now, they too would lose their freedom just as she had.
Swallowing her guilt and drawing her eyes away from the boys to see anything that would show her where they were, she noticed the trees thinning out to an area of land, and the shine of a light of what seemed to be a lighthouse.
Got ya, she smirked.
Giving the boys one last glance, she left her vision and returned to the expectant eyes of those surrounding her on the lab table.
Time to bring home the new boys.
