February 1914

Rising shine, the voice of the birds singing and the rooster crowing woke me up in the early morning. The sun shining through my eyes and a little chill of the morning cold... I am coverd of a soft silk blanket which coverd my whole body. I felt myself at peace. I gently woke up, and stretch myself for my 5 minute morning exercise. I stretch every inch of my body and I feel energenic as anyone. I looked from my window at the snowflakes falling down from the sky. It is winter! I love  winter, it's my favorite season. I remember I used to have snowball fights out in the yard with my friends, Rose and Jake. All these memories won't disapear in me. I see the younger children running around and having snow ball fights.

I ran downstairs to the kitchen and made myself tea. Across the window I see Mama feeding the chickens and the pigs. I can feel her pains every morning. Mama works so hard to feed us all! It is the middle of winter and it is the hardest season for all farmers! It's cold and it is not easy to harvest vegetables. Meat is very expensive in our village so we mostly eat vegetables from our garden. Papa works in the fields and earns little money. Every day, I see Papa with scratches and blood on his chest. It is very hard to gain money in the winter!  We are a very poor familly and each day my parents works very hard for us. My father comes back home very late. We mostly never have breakfast or dinner with Papa. My older bother, Edward, stays home and helps Mama. Sometimes, he is in charge of running the small jewelery store while the Clarkson are at on trips to London. Edward fights hard to earn money! I am the lasiest among us all, but I help Mama, mostly with cooking.

The tea kettle begins to make a wierd noise. I quickly take the kettle and switch the bunsen burner off. I sit at the table, pour some water in my mug and add fresh lemon for flavour. Steam is coming off the water. I sip my tea, but imediatly regret it. My mouth is on fire! Hurridy, I spit out the tea. My tongue is all red! I glance about for something to cool it with, and drain a glass of cold water. Ah, that's better. Then I tell myself that I will never again boil hot water and try to drink it!

Once I am done with that, I take a piece of bread and spred it with our home-made butter. Mama loves to make butter! I just say, it is the best butter in our whole village! No one can make better butter than Mama's!!

I run upstairs to prepare myself to go to the market for food. I cover myself nice and warmly so I won't catch a cold! I put on my jacket and a fluffy scarf my mother made, then I grab the basket. I run outside and walk towards the village. We near the village, just 10 minutes by foot. I love walking and running. I feel and smell pure nature. The swallows are flying and chirping. In the fields I can see rabits hopping around. It's really cute to see rabits in winter. Their fur is so white that you can't even see them far away! The road is covered in snow. It is slipery! I try to walk smothly through the ice, so as not to fall down. Wow! It's hard!!!

After my 10 minutes of walking, I finally reach the village. In the main entrance, there is no guard or people! I am worried! Did something happened? I am wondering what just happened .........
