"I need you today"

It was a Sunday afternoon in the Topaz-Blossom household, and Cheryl and Toni were arguing again. It seemed like that's all they do nowadays. The constant disputes between the married couple began to take a toll on their children, Skylar and Jackson. They'd wake up to hear their parents at each other's throats, even over the littlest of things like Toni not washing up the dishes, or Cheryl forgetting to take the trash out. The two rarely even slept in the same room together. If, by some miracle, they had managed to go a whole day without some sort of conflict, the next days dispute would be 10 times worse.

The married couple tended to make up, for the most part. But they didn't communicate as well with each other than when they once did. Toni would usually apologise first, bringing her wife flowers or surprising her with a date, whereas Cheryl was much more stubborn. Even as a teenager, the redhead rarely (if ever) apologised. However, when the business woman did attempt to make up for her actions, it usually was rough. She'd more than likely be crying, or extra soft and it would melt Toni's heart. She hated seeing Cheryl hurt. They loved each other more than you could ever know but they were unhappy.

They weren't okay, and hadn't been for a while now.

Last night they had argued again. Something about Toni not understanding the importance of attending all of the parent/teacher conferences. The two of them had been invited to spend an afternoon meeting their children's teachers, and getting an overall view on how they had been doing in school. But Toni instantly backed out, explaining to Cheryl that she was meant to be filming all day for the tv show she was in and strictly couldn't make the appointments.

Obviously the former HBIC couldn't let this go, and had even ended up calling Toni a bad mother in the process (which of course she didn't mean) causing the tanned girl to spend the night in the guest room.

Toni woke up at around 7am and had to get ready to go to set. It was a Saturday, but unfortunately she didn't always get the weekends off (which was another thing Cheryl argued with her about). The former serpent couldn't help the days in which her scenes were scheduled, but her wife refused to accept this as a valid excuse.

Once she was showered and ready, she carefully made her way across the hall into her daughter's bedroom. She was sleeping soundly, her phone placed just next to her hand. As silently as possible, she creeped towards the bed and gave Skylar a kiss on her forehead before retreating to her son's room.

He was awake, and probably had been all night. As Toni walked in, she saw him with his headset on, focussing on his game intently. Sensing someone was near, he turned his head to the side to see his Momma leant against the door frame smiling at him.

"I'm off to work, bub." She mouthed to him, blowing him a kiss in which he caught and returned. They had a close bond.

Finally, Toni made her way into her and Cheryl's bedroom. Upon entering, she walked in to see her wife hugging her pillow, little mascara splotches staining the pillowcase. The redhead was facing the edge of the bed, her back to the door. Toni sighed. She was tired of living like this. She was tired of not sleeping next to her wife. Tired of arguing. Tired of having to apologise. Tired of being apologised to. Tired of being unhappy. It was having a negative toll on everyone in the house.

Toni approached where Cheryl lay, kneeling on the floor and gazing upon the beautiful face. She reached her hand out to slowly caress the fiery locks until she was cupping her wife's face, her thumb tracing Cheryl's cheekbone.

God, she was so in love with Cheryl. So irrevocably in love. Sometimes she willed herself to imagine a life without her high school sweetheart, and couldn't help but feel like what a worthless world that would be. Because yes, they had their constant issues and differences, and yes, they weren't the happiest of couples but they loved each other more than anyone would ever be able to understand. They were the only ones who knew what it was like to share a love like their own, and despite the countless opinions of relationship therapists, only they could help themselves. Because nobody understood.

Brown eyes began to flutter open and stare into ones before her, trying to keep them open. Tears began to prick in Toni's eyes which instantly caused Cheryl's to fly open and do the same. The pink haired girl quickly wrapped her wife in her embrace as they sobbed into each other's necks.

"I don't think you're a bad mother." Cheryl cried, pulling out of the hug to look back into her favourite chocolate orbs in order to show her sincerity.

"I know, babe. I know you didn't mean it."

"Please don't go. I need you today." The redhead somewhat begged.

"I need to, sweetie. I can't just not show up." Toni reasoned.

She really wanted to stay.

"Can I go with you? We can get Ronnie to look after the kids or something," she sniffled "I just really need you today."

And Toni really couldn't argue with it because she needed Cheryl too. Usually after they'd argue, they'd be extra clingy with each other when making up.

"Okay, baby. You go get ready, and I'll wait for you in my car, okay?" Toni said "we'll text Ronnie and leave a note for the kids."

Cheryl beamed, kissing the love of her life fully on the lips. She planned on making it up to Toni today. She will. Today is the beginning of their new ways. They weren't going to argue as often. They were going to change. She was sure of it.

Okay this is rough. Let me know if you want me to continue with it.

Obvs Choni will always be endgame, but this is a more angsty fic, so don't expect them to be too happy all the time. However, this doesn't mean that they're not going to be happy some of the time. This book is honestly unpredictable.
