Chapter Three

The girls had their dresses on and both looked gorgeous. Kathryn, their new friend, was an expert at doing hairstyles fast with few instruments. Lindsey wore her hair up were it looked as though it was twisting in fifty different directions. Jesse wore hers down were only her long bangs were pulled back.

They were all in shock when they walked inside of the castles ballroom. It was a large room with a wooden floor that had red curtains and drapes hung from the ceiling. There was a giant chandelier in the hanging in the center that sparkled in the moonlight that was let in by the many large windows that filed around the room. Across the room a massive staircase was found. Kathryn joined the crowd dancing immediately while Lindsey and Jesse stood to the side and watched the classical dance that everyone was doing.

"Well it is defiantly different then the grinding at the prom." Lindsey sneered "Much more elegant."

"Much more likely to mess up and fall on my face." Jesse replied looking nervous "Why did you get me to come again?"

"O be quiet, you wanted to come. Besides we will get to dance with a prince." Lindsey winked

"Speaking of the prince, where is he?"

Just as she finished asking, a different type of music started playing and everyone stopped dancing and looked at the stairs. A small man that was dressed slightly funny walked up with a scroll. He said a few things quickly that Lindsey and Jesse didn't pick up on. Whatever he said made everyone in the room bow down to the staircase. The girls followed the crowd.

"I think he's introducing the royal family." Jesse whispered

She was right. A man and woman came down the elegant stairs together, both wearing crowns. The next person that came down shocked both of the girls. It was the prince, but he was not a complete stranger.

"That guy! Great I've already made a fool out of myself to him." Jesse complained

"You two have already bumped into each other. Maybe you guys are meant to be." Lindsey said cheerfully

"Let the dance begin." The speaker exclaimed.

Jesse and Lindsey did not have anywhere to hide before random men came up and started dancing with them. It wasn't a problem that they didn't know the dance because all of the men in the room knew how to lead. About two minutes into it the girls were spun into a new stranger and split up. Lindsey noticed that the snotty girl they encountered earlier was dancing with the prince. She couldn't help but smile when he looked annoyed at her chatting.

Jesse and Lindsey continued being tossed around into new dance partners. Lindsey was starting to feel tired when she got twirled into the prince. His head perked up a little when he noticed who he was dancing with.

"Good morrow. Thou lady and her companion hath traveled from far, aye?" the prince asked

Lindsey tilted her head a little in confusion then noticed him pointing his head towards Jesse who was staring at them nervously. The prince took her silence as a chance to continue.

"Thou friend is nonpariel. Pray tell thy maidens name."

It then clicked to Lindsey; the prince was very interested in Jesse.

"Ah, umm thou friends name is Jesse." She paused pointing her head in Jesse's direction. "We hath traveled from a village afar on foot to visit your wondrous town. It was Jesse's plan" Lindsey added on trying to make Jesse look better.

"Grammercy for thou travels. Pray pardon me, I must converse with thou friend."  The prince said to Lindsey before spinning her off to another stranger and catching Jesse.

"Thou identity be Jesse, aye?" The prince asked confidently

"Yeah, how did you..." Jesse stopped in the middle of her sentence when she saw Lindsey dancing close by giving her a thumb up.

"I have my way of obtaining information I want." He said smiling revealing his bright white teeth. "How have thou been enjoying my kingdom?"

"It's amazing. The people are mostly very friendly and the food is excellent. You have some very talented people in your kingdom; I was extremely impressed by the archery and jousting competition. We don't have that where I come from" Jesse said somewhat shyly.

"Perchance we discuss your home village and more in the gardens yonder alone?" The prince asked.

"Umm are we allowed to leave?" This statement made the prince laugh

"Of course, I do have the ability to temporarily leave a ball. You are very funny."

He started heading towards the doorway with Jesse in his hand. She could feel the stares of jealously and shock from the people dancing. She also saw a very happy looking Lindsey. As soon as they reached a gazebo, the prince started to look upset.

"How rude I am, I have yet to formally introduce myself." He went down in a small bow. "I am Prince Luke of Talycon and I feel honored to be in your presence."

"Thank you." Jesse replied blushing

"I know that we have spent a short time together but I have been looking for a wife for some time now. I have not spoken or met a nonpariel as interesting as thou. Will thou be my wife?"

"Yes." Jesse replied smiling. She felt the excitement go to her face, like she had won some sort of competition. This fair she was going to marry the prince. "Better luck next year everyone else" she thought.
