Hello. My name is Seto Yasimu, I'm 10, and I've been stuck in this nightmare for half my life. What nightmare you may ask? The orphanage. The cold, dark place where everyone is either not wanted, needed, or left all alone. My personal story is my parents divorced, my father took me, then got mad and then drunk and crashed his car into the side of a bus and died. Apparently my mother can't afford to take care of me, so I'm stuck here. I mean, the food is good and it's not like the other kids are mean to me, at least, not intentionally, but... the people who look after us, or rather, supervise us doing their chores, cooking and for the few older kids, aged around 13-14, even taxes and bills are filled in! Everyday is the same routine, wake up, cook breakfast, eat breakfast, do chores until midday, eat lunch, play outside so the orphanage doesn't lose its good reputation, more chores, and then we're expected to go to bed at 5 while the devil supervisors watch TV and party. Then the oldest kid, a 15 year old named Norman who I saw as an older brother, would get me up and teach me how to sing and play a makeshift guitar that he made for me from an old washing board and some guitar strings his friend from outside the orphanage gave him. He said he was going to be a professional performer when he left the orphanage. We played quietly, of course... but even if we played loudly, the supervisors would never hear it over the loud music they were playing.
Then one day everything changed...
The night before IT happened Norman was acting... different. He told me his dream changed and he wanted to be a part of the biggest choir in existence. His eyes teared up and he gave me the board I had before, except he had used the knife in the kitchen to shape it like an actual guitar. I happily accepted it and gave him a huge hug. To this day, I wish I had given his 'new dream' a second thought and had hugged him longer.
The next morning I woke up, hesitantly, knowing what the day would routiningly (is that a word?) have in store for me. I got up and out of nowhere one of the supervisors came rushing into the room, eyes watering. I got changed as fast as I could, it wasn't normal for one of the supervisors to get upset. I rushed into Norman's room and all I see is a rope hanging from the ceiling, and a small puddle of a red liquid on the floor, he supervisors blocking my view of anything else. I asked what was going on and what was on the floor. The supervisors told me it was just tomato sauce that had been swiped from the kitchen, and it was dangerous to be in Norman's room, as I could slip on the sauce. I walked away thinking, 'that was really out of character for them, maybe they've finally come to their senses!'

...

I never saw Norman from that day forward.
