Chapter one:
New Kid On Campus

I stared down the sealed envelope, my fingers intertwined and my elbows rested on the clean wooden surface. The air was buzzing with fear and anticipation as the letter just sat there. My parents looked between me and the letter, their own anxiety radiating off of them in waves. This moment right here would change everything, but I was frightened of the outcome. Taking in a deep, cleansing breath, I untangled my hands and reached for the letter. My parents took sharp inhales, holding their breath as the moment of truth came to pass.

I ripped open the seal, time seemingly in slow motion, pulling the letter out from the envelope. I swelled the lump in my throat, my eyes pressed firmly together as I felt the weight of the paper in my hands. It felt heavier than it should, but I knew it was just the nerves. Taking in another cleansing breath, I peeled my eyes open, letting them dance across the words on the page. I let pit a shaky breath as I looked over the first few words.

"Dear Ms. Chandler Doil," as I read the words, my fear slowly slipped away as my voice rose with happiness and excitement, " thank you for your application, we are pleased to inform you that you have been excepted to Belgrave University!" I cheered, jumping out of my seat as I flailed around like a newborn faun. "I got in! I got in!" I exclaimed, my happiness beaming off of me like vibrant rays of sunshine.

"My babies going to Belgrave, my babies going to Belgrave!" My mother celebrated alongside me, tears in her eyes as she and my father enveloped me in a warm embrace. "I knew tough could do it, sweetheart, they'd have to be idiots to turn you down," she hyped me up, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

My father planted another kiss on my head, holding me and my mother tightly in his arms. "There was no doubt in my mind that you would make it. I'm so happy for you bunny, I know you'll make that place your bitch," the older man chuckled releasing me from the hug as he and my mother looked at me with pure admiration.

I laughed at his remark, playfully punching him in the arm. "Thanks, Dad, that means a lot." We gathered for one more hug when a thought crosses my mind. "Oh shit!" I exclaimed, stepping away from both my parents who gave me quizzical looks. "I have to go register for classes and dorms and put in my weeks notice at the retail store, then I'll need to--"

"--Chandler," my dad interrupted me, smiling slightly at my over compulsiveness, "breath." Nodding, I take a deep breath in. "Just take it one step at a time, there is still plenty of time to get all of that done, for now, let's celebrate and worry about everything else later."

Agreeing to his suggestion, I push everything else to the back of my mind, forcing myself to take it slow and just roll with the punches. "You're right, those are problems for tomorrow. Tonight, we celebrate, because I just got excepted to Belgrave University!"

Stopping the car outside the university, I look up at the large building, my excitement bubbling in tenfold. Students congregate around the lawn just chatting, reading, playing catch. Unbuckling my seat belt and hopping out the car, I bask in the moment of peace, knowing that given my luck, it wouldn't last for long. Walking to the backside of the car, I begin grabbing some boxes alongside my parents. Students smiled and laughed with one another, a few of them looking over and watching as I made my way to the dorms.

As I made my way to my assigned building, a very courteous student held the door open for me and my parents. I smiled gently at the girl, stepping into the dormitory and struggling through the crowds of students as I attempted to make my way to my room. Finding the room number, I set my boxes down, fishing my keys out from my pocket. Unlocking the door, I smiled gently at the quaint space, noting the full twin, the little desk, and the matching dresser. Picking the boxes back up, I set them beside the bed, my parents walking and setting down their boxes as well.
