{Y/N POV}

I wake up on top of my sheets, my limbs all tangled together and my hair messy. I rub my eyes, yawning. As fucking tired as I am,  it's the first day of school.. I can't be late.

I get changed quickly into other clothes and leave my room, nobody else is awake even though the sun is already up. My parents aren't going to be working until next week and (b/n) is much younger so I guess it makes sense for him to still be asleep.

I skip breakfast and pack my bag quietly, not bothering to leave a note. I shut the door to the house behind me and step out into the cold morning air. The peacefulness of how quiet it is out here is something I was never able to experience in the city, by five in the morning people were already driving places. Yet here, at seven, it is still quiet as if the whole world is sleeping.

I walk down the path from the door to the road before stopping and realising I don't know how to get to school.
"Fuck.." I mutter to myself and kick at the ground. I look around and soon see a girl around my age strolling down the road.

She's got very short wavy brown hair. She's probably on her way to school, and if not the same as mine then she'll at least know her way around. She gets closer to where I am and I clear my throat a little.

"U-um- excuse me-" I grab her attention. She glanced at me and stops but doesn't say anything. "Sorry to bother you.. I'm trying to get to school um- I don't exactly- know the way.."

"What's your name?" She asks.
"(Y/n).." I shove my hands into my pockets.
"I'm Sydney, I'm sure Stan will let you come with us or something.." She shrugs and goes up to Stan's door, knocking on it loudly.

"Oh.. cool," I breathe out and slowly follow a bit further behind Sydney. Stan opens the door and smiles.
"Hey, Syd," He unlocks his car.
"Hey, Stan," Sydney's voice is quiet but not in a nervous way.

Stan notices me standing near her.
"(Y/n)! You coming with us?" He remembers my name. I smile slightly.
"Guess so, I kinda.. don't know how to get to school anyway so.." I shrug.

Soon enough we're at school, I'm able to find my first class quite quickly and suffer through most of it without much attention being drawn to me.

Eventually lunch came around, the cafeteria buzzing with laughter and conversation. Shoving my hands into my pockets i glanced around quickly, looking for anywhere to sit but of course, everyone already had their 'cliques'.

From across the room i spot Stan with Syd and another girl, he motions for me to go over. I push past a few people and wave a little awkwardly. Stan smiles at me and something about it just makes me calm down heaps.

He moves over and i sit next to him.
"(y/n), you've already met Syd, this is Dina," Stan looks to the girl sitting in front of me.
"Hey," She smiles. I smile back softly.
"Hi," i fiddle with the loose threads on my jacket.

"So, what brings you to this shit hole of a town?" Syd asks, looking at me.
"My family lived in the same house as my grandmother, so when she passed my mum couldn't stand being there anymore," I shrug.

"Oh I'm- sorry to hear that.. how're you feeling?" Dina looks at me sympathetically. My lips part slightly.
"Oh, no I'm fine, I never really liked her to be honest.." I say quickly and Dina nods.

Lunch goes by quicker than expected, they're all actually super sweet apart from Syd who has a bit of a grudge but really, who doesn't? I have my last few classes with Stan, english and maths.

We both sat together in maths, not that we can really help each other much at all. Neither of us can do maths. At all. Which means, of course, we spend the session talking about literally nothing. Literally.

"Wait so if when you see black you aren't seeing nothing then what does nothing look like?" I ask, chuckling. Stan pulls a serious face as though he's actually trying to do his maths work.
"That's a good question.. nothing must just look.. blank? I guess,"
"Well black seems pretty blank to me—" he cuts me off.

"No, but black is still something. And something isn't nothing," He thinks for a moment, "I think that when you see nothing you just see.. everything in the universe all at once, because in the end it's all really just a great big clump of nothingness."

I tilt my head slightly, "..now, to me, that just sounds like a whole lot of nothing. Either that or some r/im14andthisisdeep shit," I joke.
"Okay, okay, you're right," he chuckles, "but maybe nothing looks like seeing a place that has something so close to you that isn't there anymore.. and it just looks so empty, like nothing's there."

"Now that is some r/im14andthisisdeep shit," I smile softly.
"I'm not gonna disagree with you there," Stan smiles back. "Oh, erm, do you need a ride home?"
"Right, yeah that's be.. really great," I nod.
"Cool!" He grins.

Someone zips up their bag and soon enough, everyone is in the halls trying to get back home. I follow Stan to his car and he gets in the front seat, opening the opposite door for me.

"Isn't Syd coming with us?" I ask before getting in.
"Her and Dina are hanging out or something," He starts the car.
"Oh, alright," I nod as he starts driving us home.

Stan turns on the music, a CD already in the player. He taps his hands on the steering wheel along with the music. He looks over at me smiling softly, I smile back.

"If you like pina coladas," he starts singing along, "and getting caught in the rain." His voice isn't perfect at all, but something about that is admirable. He kind of just- owns it I guess, I'm not sure but I like his imperfections.

"If you're not into yoga," he continues.
"If you have half brain," I chuckle, he smiles brightly and blushes a little as we start singing together.

"If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes on the cape," we sound like shit and I love it. "Then I'm the love that you've looked for, write to me and escape.."
