I pull up to Mystic Fall High School, grabbing my book bag out of the passenger's seat and hoping out of my car. I see Bonnie and Elena a few feet away and call out their names. Both of them turn back with smiles on their faces, Bonnie's slightly bigger than Elena's. I do a kind of awkward fast walk up to them to catch up and throw my arms around both of them into a group hug.

"Guys how are you! I've missed you both so much" Elena's parents passed away at the end of the school year last year and it hit her really hard. I gave her a lot of space because I couldn't imagine she wanted to talk to anyone at all. Hell, she broke up with her own boyfriend at the time. I felt so bad for Matt after that but I understand why she did it. I don't think I'd be able to not only take care of my self and my brother, but then a relationship on top of that. Matt was heartbroken...I really spent my summer hanging out with him and Caroline.

"I've been fine." Elena claimed with a fake smile. I did a half smile back. She quickly changes the subject. "You should've seen what happened to us this morning on the way here! A bird flew right into our windshield. Looked like a crow, super weird. Also Bonnie thinks she is a psychic now" She said with a laugh.

"Hey! I do not, Grams does" Elena rolls her eyes with a smile and I laugh.

"I'll believe it when you give me some winning lottery numbers Bonnie." We head through the front doors and to our lockers which were all side by side. I turn around and I see Matt staring at Elena like a lost puppy dog. I walk over to him and see Elena wave to him out of the corner of my eye. Matt obviously ignores her and I don't blame him for it. She never gave him a reason for dumping him, only that she needed time. He never got closure or knows if they will ever be a thing or not.

"Hey Matty."

He mumbles back a half ass "hey" in response.

"Stop looking so down, we've talked about this." He places the last of his books in his locker and shuts it. "Just keep giving her space and in a week or so approach her about it. Just please don't rush into it. You're gonna push her away." I rub his shoulder and he still looks sad.

"I know I just want to ask her so badly about what she meant by time. If I just sit here waiting and waiting I'm gonna be wasting my time." He says. I didn't really know what to say, he's right. Maybe I'll bring it up to her later. I just place my hand on his arm in sympathy and give him a kind of "I'm sorry" look.

"I'll see you in history?" He nods as a response and I walk back over to Elena, Bonnie, and now Caroline. As I approach them I hear Caroline asking Bonnie if Elena is okay. Really Care? I roll my eyes. As much as she's my best friend she can be a little much.

I jump in and say a quick "Hey Care!" to try to save Elena from her game of 20 questions about recovering after your parents dying. Caroline turns around and gives me a hug as Elena mouths and quick "Thank you". I just smile in return.

"Hey Aiden! Oh my gosh, you know my favorite store in the mall? It's having a huge sale today only! Do you want to go after school?" I smile at how fast she's talking. Rule number one about being best friends with Caroline Forbes? Never interrupt her about shopping and never say no to going with her.
