"three months? like me alone..in a whole new city..for three months? with a boy?"
mimose was shocked more than anything.
"well," her mom let out a deep sigh. "i know you don't want to go to haiti for three months and we don't necessarily have family out here so i talked to mattia's parents and they don't mind," she explained. "you need to obey their rules though and if they want you to sleep in a different room then do so. even if they don't care, sleep in a different room because i don't need you having no babies," and her mom meant that.
"yes ma'am," she really wanted to roll her eyes and say duh but to savor the moment, she responded the responsible way. "if you guys are leaving in a few days, when do i go?"
"a day before us,"
"okay," she was about to head back to her room to tell mattia and get packing, but the deep cough let her know her dad had some words to say. "yes dad?"
"i don't know why your mother didn't buy you that plane ticket but then i realized you've never been home for more then a month at a time-" he paused, stating that haiti was their home and not chicago, "-i trust you enough to know the difference between staying and visiting. you are a visitor. do not disrespect their wishes and god forbid you do end up pregnant-"
she would probably get disowned by him.
"-the money we give you is for anything you want besides piercings and tattoos. no drugs, no alcohol, no any of that," his voice was stern but then again that was just how he sounded on a regular so mimose understood perfectly.
"i understand," she nodded.
"good," he waved his finger towards her room, "make sure you pack well. just because your getting money, doesn't mean you can shop,"
