girls are supposed to stay with the girls and the boys stay with the boys. that's what they said when we were kids. so, the girls played with the girls and the boys stayed with the boys.
"When you grow up you will marry a handsome man."
"That's how it's supposed to be."
they said to us.
its as if they had already planned our lives. and they were too naive to notice. the boys were playing with superheroes. and the girls play dress up. but when no one was looking young charlotte peaked at the girl she had adored, and weirdly she liked the girl in a way her mother wanted her to like a boy. she was only 8 she didn't know if she liked her as a friend or more than a friend. without thought, the next day charlotte had given the girl a sunflower with the roots hanging on. the girl asked, "what's this for charlotte?" "for you, I think they're beautiful just like you." the young girl smiled she took the flowers and skipped home to tell her mother. charlotte was left feeling joyful.
when she had gotten home her mother had called her name loudly. and began to scold her. what for you ask. because she had been bothering one of the girls, that girl being a certain blue-eyed friend. one of the girls had told her mother that she overheard Charlotte telling the girl she was beautiful. it was a sin. and she should never think of a girl that way only a boy. she said okay and went to her room. she was confused. how is it a sin? to like a girl the same way I would like a boy. she ignored it and went to bed dreaming of the beautiful girl.
she dreamt that they were in a field alone with many sunflowers and they sat there looking at the clouds and laughing. she hoped she stayed in that dream forever. so she planned to find a way to make it forever.
