I couldn't believe it. I could lose both of my boys in one day. I couldn't lose Luke. He was my best friend.
I dialed Luke's number, even though I knew he wouldn't pick up. "Luke, you need to stay with me. I need you. I'll do anything if you stay. I'm so sorry. I didn't believe you, but I do now. I'm sorry I blamed you for sleeping with Emma. I - I love you. I've always loved you. I choose you, Luke. It's always been you." And with that, the voicemail cut off. I chose Luke. I stood up, and started walking. I wasn't completely sure where I was going until I got there. Soon, I stood under a rotting tree in the most important park of my life. I had subconsiously gone to the park where Luke and I had our first kiss. I slumped down onto the floor.
I chose Luke. I chose Luke because I could see a future with him. I couldn't see anything past now with Tyler. But with Luke, the future was so clear. I had always loved Luke. Now I just had to tell Tyler. I walked back to my house, and asked my dad to drive me to the hospital. He tried to warn me against going. He didn't want me to get hurt, but I told him that I needed to do something, before it was too late. Reluctantly, he drove me to the hospital. At the front desk, I asked the nice lady where Tyler's room was. I directed myself to it. Luckily, Tyler was awake.
"Hey, Summers."
"Tyler, I-" I stuttered.
"I know. You chose Luke."
"How did you-" He cut me off again.
"You always chose Luke. I get it. You two were meant to be together anyway." He gave me a weak smile.
"Are you mad?"
"Not at all. I understand, Summers."
"Can I hug you?"
"Sure." When I hugged him, I could feel him tense up.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you."
"I'll heal."
I gave him one more kiss on the cheek, before walking over to Luke's room across the hall.
"Luke?" Unlike Tyler, Luke wasn't awake yet. Mrs. Chandler came in.
"Charlotte, darling, the doctor said that Luke will be okay, but he won't be awake this afternoon. I'll make sure that he hears your message, though. You should go home, and take a rest. When he wakes up, I'll call."
"Thank you, Mrs. Chandler."
"No problem, dear."
~ 2 hours later ~
I could feel my phone ringing from under my pillow. I glanced at the clock. 1:53 AM. Who the hell would be calling me at 1 in the morning? Luke.
"Hello?"
"Charlie?"
"LUKE!"
"You chose me?"
"I've always chosen you. Always."
"I love you, Charlie."
"I love you too, Luke."
"Did you mean what you said? About doing anything if I stayed?"
"Fully. Why?"
"Because I want you to stay. Forever. I want to go to the same college, so I can always be the boy-next-door. So we can grow old together, and raise our kids, and be happy, the way everyone imagined we would."
"Okay."
