Chapter 1: Awakening

I wake up. I slowly open my eyes. Soon I notice that I am facing a wall, which isn't supposed to happen... At home, my bed isn't placed beside a wall. I furrow her eyebrows and push myself up. Something is off, I can feel it. I look down and I was completely shocked and confused. As I looked down I was exposed to my own naked body. I get back under the covers of the bed I am on and I look around the room, trying to figure out where I am. The place looks old. Ancient even. There's a lot more beds in this room, too. I don't know where I am, but I don't remember coming here... I stand up, pushing my hair back a bit. This is weird. I cautiously get up and look around the ground, hoping to find clothes somewhere... But to no avail. I put my ear to the door. Not hearing anyone on the other side, I decide to wrap a cover around my upper body and leave the room, in search for anything to wear.

Eventually, in a room next to the one I woke up in... I find many closets. A few of them have outfits in them. I raise an eyebrow to the weirdness of the situation. Even up until now, I haven't seen anyone. I cautiously look around. The more I look, the more I realise that I woke up in a castle. I swiftly grab an outfit I like. It's a long coat that is all black, together with leather boots and black, tight pants. They're all a little ill-fitted, but obviously they're not mine. Or maybe it's because... I am in a castle. So maybe, I don't fit in them because they are made with underdeveloped tailoring techniques? They do look quite medieval-styled...

Right, maybe I should introduce myself. My name is Chelsea Dunphy. I'm a pretty normal person if I say so myself. I've heard some people say I'm weird, but maybe I'm weird to them. I think what I do is pretty normal! I may look stern, but I'm pretty kind and gentle. If help is needed, I will try to provide it. And just between you and me, I'm pretty selfish, but if I could I would be as selfless as needed! I really want to help people, sometimes I just back down because I'm a bit of a coward, but I'm trying to be the best me I can be. My family is richer than most families in the neighbourhood are. And here comes the good part. I have eight older siblings. Yes, eight! I'm the youngest out of everyone. There's Daisy, Espen, Iris, Viola, Fleur, Cedar, Jasmine and Lily... These are my older siblings, in order of young to old. Daisy and Espen are twins, which is why they still get more attention even though I'm the oldest. I don't feel like I do well in a family, so as soon as I turn 18, which is in 3 days, I will move out! And I will become independent, with no family and NO siblings and no more responsibilities over others. Also, no more Daisy and Espen. They're quite the annoying duo. I tried to make my family notice me and give me some respect, but it all turned out really bad. I tried to save a stranger who got mugged in a dark alleyway, but the mugger pulled out a gun and nearly killed me by shooting me in my neck. Now, I have a scar of that horrible memory. Maybe that's where my selfishness comes from...

I step out of the changing room and open the door to the hallway I just passed through, and outside were three people. Two talking to each other, and one of them just came up the stairs. The people were quite different from one another. One of the people talking was dressed like a jester. I couldn't make out their gender since they had a mask on and a hood. Half of his cape was purple and half was orange. His mask was beautiful and smooth, like porcelain. It was decorated with light green swirls. He had a pointy cape and his outfit was decorated with green, purple and orange diamond shapes. The person they were talking to was a girl, she was small and adorable. She wore her hair in a braided bun and had curly strands of hair in front of her ears. She had bright blue eyes and wore a white fur coat with a pink bow. She wore a dark red plaid skirt and crimson leggings with high boots. The person who just entered the room same time as I did was quite different. She was a medium-height pale lady with black hair. She looked somewhat like a vampire. She had one drill-tail on the back of her head tied with a green bow. She had bare shoulders and wore a dress that was vertically striped black and dark green with a total of eight stripes. She wore a corset-like waist accessory that pushed up her breasts. The dress had frilled shoulder straps, also colored the same dark green as her dress. She wore black lipstick and dark green heels.

I was not in the mood for having to talk to people now, I mean, I want to explore and find out why I'm here. Pretending I did not see anyone, I looked at the paintings on the wall as I was slowly walking along the walls, trying to walk a big circle around the people. But then I heard it. "Good...night...? to you, ma'am." I heard a female voice call out. She sounded polite. It was a sweet, high-pitched voice. I turned around, expecting to see the small girl who was just talking with the jester, but I was greeted by the gothic girl. I jump a bit in surprise, not expecting her to have such a voice that totally doesn't suit her appearance. "Ah, yes, hello." I nod at her politely and put my hands behind my back. "You just woke up, did you not?" She asked me, she looked concerned for me. "You're the last one then..." The woman murmured to herself. The last one? I asked to myself. I look back at her. "Hey, where are we? And how many people are here?" I ask her, and I tilt my head to the left, slightly. "Well I don't know how many people are here in total. I saw... About sixteen beds in total..." She totally spoke like math genius. "...and I met twelve people. So I might be missing four, but as far as I know, there are 12 people." The woman smiled at me for a short bit before answering my first question. "We're at a castle, by the way." She said. The more I look at her, the more gorgeous she becomes. I'm totally jealous of her grass green eyes. I nod at her. "Thank you." I look back at the people talking, they're still going. I turn back to the lady. "Do you know why we're all here?" I ask her, but that causes her face to go from concerned to sad. "Well, nobody knows." She let free a deep sigh. "But I can share with you my theory, if you want." She says. "But fair warning, they're a little terrifying." She said. "I can handle it." I said, as I laid my hand on the back of my neck. "Waking up naked is already a red flag." I told her, and nodded at her, letting her know that she can share her theories with me."

"My theory is... We've been kidnapped by a sadistic psychopath who will shortly force us all to play a game of life or death and we will not be able to leave unless we play into his game and since this is an island there is no way for us to get out because there's no land, no matter how far you look." She furrowed her eyebrows and closed her eyes. It looked like she was pensating "Why I think that is... Because there are a lot of elaborate and weird setups, this is not a normal place, and nobody remembers signing up for anything like... A fucking cosplay event." She looked annoyed more and more as she spoke about it. "I see.. It certainly is a possibility." I look at the floor, holding my chin with my thumb and index finger. I slightly furrows her eyebrows, as well, looking puzzled. "What do you mean with 'weird setups'?" I ask. It takes a short while for her to respond, but she did eventually. "For example, there was audio installed in the oven, church and the windmill, there are machines under the water that project hands onto the ice... There's a rocking chair being constantly pulled by a thread that goes underground, there's a statue that lights itself on fire and... That's all I saw, but it is enough for me to be convinced that someone set this up for us." It's an answer to my question, yes, but I have not left the castle yet, so I do not know about anything she's talking about. Are these the other things that are here? And it's an island too, apparently. "Strange.." I mumble, rubbing my chin. "How would this person set this all up. And why.." I continue mumbling all kinds of questions to myself, eventually the lady stops me. "All these questions are exactly what we've been having. Also, there is no fresh water." Okay, that does it for me. I absolutely HATE this place. Not believing... or more so, not wanting to believe her, I ask her another question. "Are you sure you checked everywhere for water?" I ask. "Well yes. We have wine and beer though, but we'll still be missing necessities we get only from water." She tells me. "There must be water somewhere!" I raise my voice a little. She looks a little scared after I did that. I retreat. I know it's not her fault, but I calm myself down again... Carefully a little and continue to talk. "Are you sure you looked everywhere?" "Every places that contain water, I have. And I'm positive I missed nothing... Except a little building outside on the courtyard, I did not look in there yet." She responds to my question. Great, she's sure we checked everywhere, which makes matters worse. I thank her for her input, but... I still want water, you know? "Then we should check it just in case there is water. I am not dying yet." I close my eyes, sigh and lower my hand from my chin. "Yes, let us do that." She said. She looks back at the people behind us. "Weax, Chloé, I'm taking the new one down to the courtyard, any objections?" I ask. "Nah girl, it's fine." The jester said. "So that's Weax..." I murmur. "Hey, what's your name?" I look at the gothic woman. "I'm Charisma, it's nice to meet you." She nods and smiles. "Let's go." She says. We leave the two people behind.
