"Yay!" I squealed as we got out of the truck.
"Why are you so happy?" Jake asked, cocking an eyebrow at me.
"It's the last one! I bet it's the best one. I hope no one important dies. Oh, who am I kidding? Of course no one important will die."
"Chris, calm down. It's just a movie."
I rolled my eyes and looked back at Luke, who looked confused as to how crazy I sound.
"Don't worry. She gets even worse sometimes," Jake called back to Luke.
"Fuck you, Jake," I whispered so Luke can't hear my potty mouth.
"You know you want to, sweetheart."
I hit him on his shoulder as hard as I could. He chuckled in response. Oh, ha ha, real funny that I hit like a girl.
I stepped up and into the doors. I looked around the room and saw a 10 ft. banner of I'm guessing is going to be the movie cover, and a huge cardboard cut out.
I looked at Jake with a huge smile on my face. "This movie is going to be awesome!" I squealed.
He shook his head with a smile on his face. I looked back at Luke, who looked alone. So I did what any dating couple would do, I grabbed his hand and held it.
I told him that Jake should feel like the third wheel because he's the one that's tagging along. Not the other way around.
A smile crept on his face. It makes me happy to please other people.
"Three tickets for The Hobbit," Jake said to the woman standing behind the register.
"Alright, that will be thirty dollars," she said with a wink.
Of course every girl but me hits on Jake. The damn estrogen, I'm telling you.
She handed him the tickets and gave him a big smile. We walked over to the concession counter and stood in line. We were like fifteenth in line, and there are two lines.
I guess this is the perfect day to see movies.
"Jake, you know what to order me, I'm gonna head into the movie and save you a seat," I said to Jake.
"Okay. Luke, what do you like to drink?" he asked.
"Um, I guess Mountain Dew is fine," Luke smiled.
I pulled Luke along with me and we entered the room. It was lit quite bright so people can find their seats before the movie.
I walked up the stairs and took a seat about halfway up the seats. I sat down and Luke sat next to me, still holding my hand.
"I'm sorry that I made you feel like the third wheel," I stated.
"It's fine. You're open with Jake. You barely even know me," he smiled.
"Well, sometimes, Jake just makes me act that way. We have been best friends since we were in second grade, and ever since, we've never left each other's side."
"I had a friend like that once, but then we turned, like, thirteen, and she started blowing me off for other people."
"That sucks. But you can hang with me and Jake whenever you want. We need someone new anyways."
"So, tell me about yourself. How many family members you got?"
I sighed. "Well, there's me, my little brother, and my mom."
"Oh, I'm really sorry that I asked."
"It's okay. What about you?"
"There's me, my older sister, my older brother, and my parents."
"I would love to have an older sister. It was just me and my two brothers growing up."
"I thought you said that you only had-"
Jake started walking up the steps and interrupted Luke. "So, a Pepsi for Chris, a Mountain Dew for Luke and a Mug for me," he said happily.
"Thank you, Jakey!" I gushed dramatically.
He sat on my other side and started to sip his drink. The previews for the movie started and the lights dimmed.
~.~.~.~
I would be lying if I said that I didn't cry. (A/N: I did cry to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, but for those of you that love The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I'm not going to ruin it for you if you didn't see it. <3) Jake did hug me when the tears fell from my eyes, but it did have a wonderful ending.
Luke stood up and offered me his hand. I gladly grabbed it and linked our fingers together.
I looked down at Jake, only to see him staring at our intertwined fingers. He looked really stiff and... mad. Jake was clearly showing jealousy and if I really wanted to, I could rub it in his face that he's wrong.
I turned around and me and Luke walked down the stairs together, Jake trailing behind. Now look who's the third wheel.
~.~.~.~
"I'll call you about another date. I had a lot of fun," Luke whispered.
He could sense that Jake was tense and he didn't want to irc him.
Jake pulled into Dairy Dip and stopped the car. I turned to Luke and gave him a kiss on the cheek before he climbed out of the truck. I climbed into the front seat and clicked my seatbelt in.
Jake didn't say a word for most of the ride.
"Jeez, what's up your ass?" I asked, finally breaking the silence.
"Nothing. I just don't care for him," he snapped.
"Jake, you aren't Kyle."
"Well, who else is supposed to protect you?"
"You take one look at a guy I like and you don't think he's good enough for me."
He pulled the truck over. "Don't you understand? No guy is good enough for you. You're way out of Luke's league, and he doesn't deserve you."
"Then who does? Because we were all made for one reason, and one reason only."
"Nobody, but people just find others. No matter who you marry, he will never be good enough."
"Jake, I don't think you're right. I mean, look at me. I'm just Chris."
"But the you on the inside is so much more."
Wow. When did Jake turn into a romantic? The last I knew, Jake was the one that banged all the chicks. The one that could make out with any girl and not give a damn about her feelings.
"Jake, can you please stop acting like you're Kyle. Just because he isn't here, doesn't mean you have to take his place," I said, tears forming in my eyes.
Jake pulled the truck back onto the road and started to drive me home.
The rest of the car ride was silent. There is really no reason for Jake to be as protective as he is. Sometimes, he just doesn't give me enough space when it comes to talking to guys.
He stopped the truck and didn't bother to get out. I opened the door and ran into the house, slamming the door behind me.
My date night wasn't the most ideal that anyone could have. Luke asking about Kyle, Jake acting like Kyle.
This whole night just brought back some things that I don't like to think about on a daily basis.

Author's Note
Who's Kyle? How far do you think Chris and Luke will go? Why is Jake being the way he is? Comment below to answer with your opinions to these questions.
For those of you that LOVE The Lord of the Rings trilogy, I suggest watching The Hobbit movies. Even to those of you that don't really care for it. It may seem nerdy to watch movies about elves, dwarves, hobbits, orks, and a dark lord, but these movies are amazing and you should check them out if you haven't before.
CVF if you liked this chapter.
Love ya! <3
