Before I met Selena, I was dating Joe...
People spoke too loud and clearly didn't know what whispering was. I didn't have the strength to speak. My head pounded, my eyes becoming sensitive to the light. My stomach felt like it was getting smaller.
I flipped to the assigned page and continued reading where the teacher left off in the book. My vision blurred the words together. It was the last class, and I was tired. I just wanted to sleep.
"I have a sports meeting today, in the gym.. would you like to join me?" Joe questioned, standing in front of my desk.
His muscles were more refined, his hair grew longer, and for some reason he looked taller.
"Y-yeah, baby. I'll go." I said quietly, closing the book. I don't want to read anymore. Fuck the book, fuck the assginment.
I thought it was weird that Joe asked me to join him, knowing I would say yes. We would go everywhere together. You except your girlfriend to do things without being asked. Joe loved football. I loved cheering.
Joe was my escape, especially because my parents were seperating, my sisters would fight with me constantly, and my grades started to pludge.
"You don't look so good..." He trailed off.
My hair fell out of its bun, and I was too lazy to put it up. I handed Joe the hair tie, and he put it around his wrist. Joe moved a strand of hair, and placed it behind my ear. He studied me.
"Babe, you're starting to look a bit like Kermit." He joked, I laughed softly.
When the bell rang, Joe waited until the classroom was empty to leave. I got up, holding on to him. I was already losing my blance.
"Joe, I'm dizzy.." I spoke.
"I got you." He said, holding onto my waist.
I was more exhausted than I thought I was. We walked into the hall, and Joe's voice faded in and out of my hearing.
"What?" I asked.
Suddenly, I felt the blood draining from my face, and heaved. I pushed Joe away. Something surged from my gut into my throat. An avalanche of food was spilling out of my mouth, covering the lawn in front of me. Everyone around us gasped, and Joe's pained expression appeared. He grabbed my hair, and swiftly put it up with a band around his wrist.
"Whoa, baby." He said. " Get it all out, it's okay."
He patted my back, and held my right hand tightly, as I procedded to get all of what was in me, out of my system.
"Oh god." I cried, my knees threatening to make me fall over.
"Demi... here, baby." Joe said, wiping my face with a napkin that he fished from his pocket.
I rinsed my mouth with water, and popped a mint in my mouth.
"Are you okay?" Joe asked, "Let's go see the nurse."
I shook my head, and wiped the tears from my eyes.
"No..." I whispered. "Let's go to the meeting. I bet I already made you late..."
He nodded, and held me closer to him.
"I'm not late." He said, softly.
We walked in the gym and you could see the cheerleaders from where I was standing. The count off, the basket toss and the flyer landing perfectly in the circle of people who tossed her.
The sports administator came out to the bleachers. All the teams were cheering, and stopped as soon as I walked to the front row. Because Joe was the Captain, He sat in the front row, so it would easier to get to the stage for his speech.
