Something New

I opened my eyes with heavy breaths and it was pitch black.
I still had images from that dream replaying in my head.
The boy holding my hand, twirling me around, his hand on my waist and his eyes staring at mine.
When you thought of it, it was a beautiful, magical dream. An amazingly good looking boy dancing with me in the middle of a fancy ball room, what's wrong with that?
But something about it didn't feel beautiful, and fancy and magical. It felt quite frightening and dark. Like it was warning me to be scared, warning me that something was going to happen.
I got out of my bed and reached for my desk, where a cold bottle of water was laying, and grabbed it.
When I layed back down and drank some water, I kept thinking about the dream. And even though the dream was frightening, that feeling of his hands around my waist gave me.. Goose bumps. A shiver, butterflies in my stomach.
And I couldn't shake that feeling away.
--
"So," a familiar voice approached me during biology class. "How's FC High treating you?"
I raised my eyes from the notes I was taking, and saw Riley sitting down at the seat next to me. "Hey," I smiled. "It's doing good."
She smiled back. "Good."
"This girl bothering you?" A tall, brown haired guy joined us, while rubbing the top of Riley's head playfully.
"Hi, Adam." She looked in his blue eyes with a tired, yet happy look.
They were both model material. Riley had a beautiful tanned coloured skin and brown eyes, and her smile was inchanting. You could tell she was the sweet, loved girl around FC High. The boy, Adam, practically looked like her twin. Tanned, contagious smile, and high, perfect cheekbones. They looked adorable.
"Don't let her fool you, she might look sweet, but she's nothing but scary." He smiled and streched her cheecks out until it tunred red.
"Ouch!" She yelped. "Don't you listen to him."
I laughed as Adam grabbed a chair and sat down next to us. "So, you're the new girl?"
I chuckled. "Word travels fast around here doesn't it?"
"Hmm." Riley nodded. "You're famous."
The door of the biology lab opened and a tall, blonde guy walked in and took a seat, and I noticed that Riley's eyes were inchanted by him. "Who's he?" I asked amused.
"Oh, that is Riley's secret love." Adam made fun of her.
"Shut up!" She defended herself. "He's not my secret love."
He looked at her with a grin on his face. "Oh yeah? So what is he?"
"I.. He's-" she tried to defend herself. "Ok, fine, I kind of have a crush on him."
I laughed. "Has he made a move?"
She bent her lips together. "Nah, he's not that kind of guy. He's super focused on his swimming, he would never."
I was confused. "So why don't you do it?"
Adam tried to hold back a laugh, and failed. He laughed so hard for like two minutes straight, and I honestly didn't understand why. "What's so funny?"
"Riley? Asking Toby out?" He made it sound impossible. "Birds will fly out of my ass before that happens."
"Uh, Toby is a cute guy's name." I ignored Adam's attemped at burning down Riley, who couldn't care less.
They seemed to be pretty good friends, and amazing ones as well, and I was a bit envy of that. I never had such a connection with anyone other than my brother.
"Zoe? Are you here? Zoe?" They laughed, and I realized I was just sitting there, staring at them.
I zoomed out of the trance I was under. "Yeah, sorry. Anyway, I'm not saying ask him out. I'm saying make the first move." They looked at me utterly confused. "Try talking to him?" I came to the point of mouthing it to them like they were five year olds.
"Don't you patronize me." Riley said with an intended childish face as Adam smirked. "Wait, but won't it make me, like, really weak?" She emphasized the word really.
"It will show you're a feminist." Adam playfully pointed out.
I hissed. "Oh, please. Is it really that big of a deal here that a girl would hit on a boy?"
They hissed back at me. "Yeah."
"That's redicioulos. It doesn't show weakness, it shows strength." I tried convincing her.
The bell rang for lunch break. "Think about it," I told Riley as I grabbed my stuff and was about to leave the lab.
"Where do you think you're going?" Adam asked as he saw me leaving.
I made a small laugh. "To my brother?"
He smirked and pulled me by my right hand, and Riley joined. "No," she said, "you're coming with us."
--
The lunch room was packed.
There were so many tables, each of them overloaded with students, and more kids sitting on the floor in the corner.
"So," I chuckled, "what table do you two, nerds, sit at?"
Adam pointed straight ahead to the centred table in the lunch room, and you could tell it was the 'cool kids' table. "Right over there." He said. I looked at who sat around the table, trying to recognize faces, but I recognized no one. And then I looked again, and saw him at the centre of the table. A beautiful, rough looking guy, making jokes with everyone around him and when we sat down at the table and he saw me, he looked right in my eyes. I felt the butterflies again. "Everyone, this is Zoe." Riley introduced me.
He looked curious. "Zoe."
Yes. Zoe. "And you are?" I smirked at him, with a rude, yet kind tone.
He took a few seconds to answer, as if he had to remember what his name was. "Caspar." He finally answered.
For a few seconds we didn't take our eyes off of each other.
He looked at me with an interested expression and looked like he was enjoying it, while I looked at him impatiently, waiting for his eyes to move.
"So, Zoe," a girl's voice made me turn my face to look for it. I saw a strawberry hair coloured girl sitting infront of me, smiling. "Where did you come here from?"
I smiled back. "Manchester was the last place I lived at."
"The last place?" Adam asked. "Where else did you live?"
"Brighton, New Castle, Birmingham, Nor-"
He cut me off, a bit overwhelmed. "Wow, slow down!" He laughed.
"Why so many places?" Riley asked curiously.
I shrugged. "No reason, my parents just love dragging me and my brother every year from town to town."
The girl raised her eyebrows. "Ooh, there's a brother? How old is he? Is he cute?"
I laughed, "he's my twin, and-"
I felt a hand on my shoulder. "He's absolutely gorgeous."
I turned around to see Joe with a proud smirk. "What do you want?" I shoved him off my shoulder playfully.
He shrugged and leaned on my back. "Oh, nothing. Just thought I'd come embarrass my little sis." He hugged my neck and strangled me tightly.
I slapped the back of his hand. "Ouch! Bye, Joe."
"No, no," the strawberry blonde girl said with a smile. "Joe, you should stay and sit with us."
He looked at me with a winning smirk on his face and sat down to the right of Riley, who made a spot for him available.
"I'm Liz." She smiled at both of us. "How is-"
"Have we met before?" Caspar intruded to what Liz was about to say.
He looked straight at me, curiously again.
I was surprised by the question. Not because it was coming from him, but because I thought that if he hasn't asked that by now he never will.
"No, I don't think we have." Unless it was in my dream.
He looked like he was more calmed now.
"Anyway, h-" Liz tried talking again before Caspar intruded her, again.
"Are you sure?" He asked me.
Liz was annoyed. "Caspar stop it!" She punched him softly on the shoulder.
He grabbed her fist, moved it closer to his mouth and gave it a soft kiss. "Sorry, L, it's just driving me insane." He wouldn't let go of her hand as he was waiting for an answer from me.
Changing my gaze from their tight holding hands and his ocean blue eyes, I said, "quite sure. You two make a cute couple." I smiled slightly.
He quickly released his hand from hers as she began laughing hard. "What?" I asked cluelessly.
Adam chuckled behind me. "They're not a couple." He said.
"Ooh.." I said as I was smiling like an embarrassed little girl. Adam grabbed my forehead and pulled me closer to him for a hug, then with his other hand he rubbed the top of my head. "Stop it!" I shoved him away and pulled myself back to my seat.
"You thought we were a couple!!" Liz shouted loud enough for the whole lunch room to here.
"Hey!" Caspar yelled in insultment.
"What?" She said mid- laughter.
"Why is us being a couple so funny for you?" He asked hurtfully.
If you like a guy with amber brown coloured hair, ocean eyes that you could just stare at for hours and a rusty, but soft looking body.. You'd very enjoy looking at Caspar. When I first saw him at the end of the hallway with his eyes pointed straight at me, it was safe to say I was rather intimidated. Now, with his soft appearance I let go of all of that.
I stared at him for a couple of minutes until Riley nudged my side with her elbow. "Zoe?"
I turned my head to face her. "Yeah?"
"Me and Liz are gonna go shopping for her 18th birthday party after school, want to join?" She offered.
I smiled, and thought about what my parents told Joe and I last night. London was starting off on a good note. "Definetly."
--
"Come on out!" Riley shouted to Liz that was in a changing room.
"Wait!" She yelled back, and a couple minutes she peeked her head out. "i don't like it."
"Are you naked?" I asked.
She looked confused. "No."
"Good." I quickly opened the curtain of the cuticle she was in before she could stop me.
"Hey!" She yelled in protest.
Riley and I ignored her whining and looked at her body from top to bottom. She was wearing a cream strapless maxi dress, that was entirely covered with lace. Her tanned skin and strawberry blonde hair went perfectly with the light coloured dress, and she looked absolutely gorgeous.
Riley and I didn't say anything for a few minutes. "I knew it's that bad." Liz sighed in disappointed. "God, I won't find anything!"
"Wow," was all I could say.
"L, you found a dress." Riley said.
"You look stunning!" I went to the other side of her to look at her back, which was just as amazing.
"Yeah?" She said in hessitation. Despite her popularity, you could definetly see she is the unconfident one in the group. "Oh, thank god!" She yelped. "I cannot take this anymore." She was right, we've been to about 6 stores and this is the first dress we found that looked good.
She got into the changing room and changed back to her own clothes. "So.." I thought this would be a good time to ask something that I've been wanting to ask all day. "What's with you and Caspar?"
Riley began laughing. "I still can't believe that you thought they were a couple."
"It really looked like it, ok?" I defended myself.
Liz laughed. "We've been best friends since preschool," she explained. "I've known him the majority of my life."
Wow. Having a best friend for that long, having that connection with someone.. There's nothing more I wanted than that.
"Why did he think he knew you?" Riley cut my thoughts.
"I have no idea," I actaully wish I knew. "Must've confused me with someone else."
We went to pay for Liz's dress and then headed on to grab some food when Riley's phone started ringing.
"Oh, no. No. No. No." She froze, looking at her phone screen.
We both came closer to her and looked at her phone. On the top of it, in big white letters, were the words 'Toby Maestro'. "Is that toby from biol-"
"Yes, yes it is and I cannot answer this!" She got nervous.
"Answer it." Liz said.
"Oh yeah?" Riley looked at her with a doubtfull face. "And say what?"
I quickly grabbed her phone from her hands and answered the call. "Hello?"
Riley was mad. "Zoe hang up now! Zoe!!"
"Hi, is this Riley?" The voice from the other end of the call asked.
"No, this is actually her friend." I said calmly. "She's trying on a dress at the moment, can I take a message?"
"Uh, yeah. Can you tell her Toby wanted to know if she could see him later today?" He said. "It's kind of important."
I hesitated. "We're at the mall, do you want to come here now?"
He took a minute while Riley was waving at me with angree gestures and Liz was laughing hard. "Sure, why not?"
