Chapter two:  Matt’s POV

 

Mello’s one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I love him to death.  He’s the first person that’s even treated me as kindly as he does.  Mel treats me a lot nicer than the kids at Wammy’s did, that’s for sure.  Mello was sitting on the couch we have, on the phone and taking notes on a notepad like he usually does.  This time, he was acting weirder than yesterday.  I think he’s still a bit ashamed that I came in and he was pissing in the bed, but hey, we’re both guys, so it’s okay.  I know he misses his mom and stuff…he’s gone through a hell of a lot more than I have.  I stroked his hair and rubbed his shoulders, trying to comfort him as I know that Aunt Flo is coming pretty soon for him.  I asked him, “Hey, Mels.  You doing okay?  Is there anything you need or want me to do?”

“No, Matt.  You don’t have to do anything for me…I already got it taken care of.  Thanks for being concerned about me though,” he answered as he mindlessly continued to work and do research.  I saw that look on his face whenever he receives bad news.  Mello answered the phone right away.  I knew it was Rod calling because he said, “Oh, heya, Pops.  What’s up?”

 

*Mello’s POV*

What’s Pops calling me for?  I don’t know if it’s something good or something bad…all I know is that there’s something with Skinner, but I don’t know what.  I think he’s calling because of that.  I asked him, “What’s up, Pops?”

“Mello, I got something to tell you.  I’ll tell you on one condition.  Promise me you won’t get all upset,” he said.

I replied, “Okay, I won’t get all upset.  What do you need to tell me?” I heard Rod sighing for some reason.  I asked him, “Is it really that serious, Pops?”

Rod said, “No, Mello.  I just don’t want to leave you all in distress…a lot more than you usually are.” He added, “Look, Mello, I got a call from Skinner yesterday, and he said that he’s leaving for a while.  He said he’s got some new broad to impress, so he’s not going to be with us for a while.” I couldn’t help but just laugh.  He asked, “What’s so funny, Keehl?” I pulled myself together and said:

“You thought I was going to get upset because he’s got a girlfriend?!  Oh my god, Pops…you don’t understand at all, do you?  I think it’s great that he’s got a girlfriend, as long as he doesn’t get all pussy-whipped, if you get my drift.”
