The World Beyond Your Eyes

Chapter One-The beginning

The evergreen trees towered over the small scrawny girl as she wandered through the forest. Confused and hysterical, she bolted through twigs and branches-both thick and thin. They coiled and twisted as the mud grew thick. The weather had turned against her. She dogged and turned through crooked brambles and hedges for what seemed like eternity until she noticed it. A light piercing through the thick scabrous trees.

As she slowly stepped further towards the light, puffs of smoke were seen rising upwards into the air before she could make out the contours of a small weathered cottage. Its flowers decorated the wide grille windows. Its walls were painted a pleasant pale yellow while the large thatched roof made it all the more enjoyable.

The girl hammered on the large brown door-knocker. No response. She tried again but louder. Nothing. She tried crying out for anyone inside as the rain was beating her shoulders but the only response she heard was the whistling of the trees as they caved in around her in response to the harsh and heavy winds. She was about to turn and leave in defeat before bumping into a flower pot placed by the door. Her foot had knocked it over causing the clay vase to smash as its echoes intertwined with the thunder roaring around her. The girl peered towards it closely before moving fragments of the clay vase and digging up the soil within. She then pulled out a strange brown lump from its contents. She carefully rubbed it in hopes of making out a small silvery object as the rain caused the brown substance to ooze onto the floor. While questioning herself the silver object had turned out to be a uniquely bent key.

After examining her findings, the girl scampered towards the door and slid the key through the carefully embellished hole. With a few tugs and pulls, the large ornamental door slowly opened as the hinges announced her entry. She slowly crept into the light within the house while the thunder bellowed in desperation and worry for what was to come.
