Brenden
I watch the clock closely. In a few minutes, the start of summer vacation shall begin. The crossword puzzle our teacher gave us has become dull and pointless. Ah, I can see it now, the sandy beaches of Joeland, the beautiful fish in Joelantis, the cool breeze from Hanskair. It seems so far off though.“Two more minutes,” I hear a student mutter to his friend. I agree, I’m pretty excited to head out of this boring school. My Gifted classes were fun while they lasted. The bell rung loudly throughout the school. However, it’s not like in the movies where hundreds of kids pour out of the building, no, it’s still the same wait until dismissal procedure.
As I got onto the boring, pale yellow school bus that I’ve been riding all year, I drop my Maximum Ride book. A nice, thirteen-year-old girl hands me it. “Here you go,” she said. She had the perfect smile and beautiful hair. I think I have a crush.
“Thanks,” I say gratefully.
“No problem,” she responds back, “I’m Ladasha.”
“I’m Brenden, nice to meet you.”
“Bye.” Then she walked off. Who knows, I might see her again.

“Brenden,” my mom said as I walked into the house, “look.” I saw my mom watching MRNC (Master Republic News Channel) on T.V. The queen of the Master Republic was on stage. What she said, made the whole nation stand still.
“This delightful country of ours is at risk. Wapolem was given a chance, and they used that chance to kill innocents in Nasho, Joeland. By doing that, they have sparked a non-perishable flame that shall sweep their nation and leave it in ruins. How many will be killed, I plan on none. But Lovenioso will not allow that. Blood shall be spilled, covering both countries in grief. I’m sorry my Masterians, but we are at war.”
“Oh my,” I said. What will this do to my summer. Dang, I’m selfish. How will this affect our economy, power, government, people, how will it affect our sanity? I had so many questions from that one speech. We have to stay and hold our ground. Europe was heavily bombed, and eventually a nuclear war finished Europe off. Africa is now polluted with smog and acid rain. Asia hates us. The United States are in their own war with China and Russia, making the U.S. insecure. This was bad.
“We need to stock up,” my mother called to me, “all food and water will be recalled for military use. We need to go, now!”
We came back bundled down with many groceries from the nearest Wal-mart. Canned non-perishable foods filled the paper bags. I had to go back to the car to retrieve fifty-five gallons worth of water in water bottles. We had to now survive on these mere items. The Masterian-Wapolen War is upon us.
