San stood at the window of his dorm room, leaving it open to allow air to circulate. The late night breeze rustled his black hair tenderly, leaving it to fan off his forehead.

Behind him, Yeosang was reading a book while perched on his bed, legs crossed and face concentrated. They had been friends for so long, that comfortable silences settling around them were more common than endless talking.

The pureblood's eyes followed a stray leaf which drifted through the air, trapped on a path it couldn't fight. There was something amusing about that picture, to San. He wasn't particularly sadistic, though he did hold what was his, firmly.

"What are you thinking about, hm?" Yeosang uttered from his spot on the bed, neatly closing the novel and looking up at his childhood friend expectantly.

"Nothing overly important," the younger hummed, leaning against the window frame with his arms folded. A loose and white long sleeved shirt hung around his frame, while slightly more fitted trousers wrapped around his legs. The breeze also picked up his attire, making it billow beautifully and create a stunning image.

"By 'nothing of importance', I assume you have that boy on your mind, yes? Wooyoung?"

"No, Sang. I wouldn't have lied in the first place had I been thinking of interesting things like Jung Wooyoung. My thoughts were simply drifting elsewhere without my knowing."

"You should read more. It's entertaining and keeps the mind active."

"If you can pose a book to me that I haven't read, which also fits my favourite categories, then please, be my guest. I have run out of fun stories."

Yeosang sighed airily, flopping back onto his mattress and splaying his arms out in defeat. "Never mind then."

Though, now that his friend had mentioned him, San couldn't help but look back out at the empty campus and think of Wooyoung. His feisty little Darling. Oh, how that human brought fun wherever he went.

The ravenette couldn't contain his excitement whenever he saw him, though nobody else was able to spot his shift in character. Wooyoung was absolutely precious with those sour and spiteful eyes, sinful lips that spat harsh insults at him, and perfectly proportionate body.

San was no masochist, yet this one male had him questioning his sanity for pursuing someone who was clearly against him.

It was all a great coincidence in the end, though. As it turned out, Park Seonghwa, a human Yeosang had been teasing for the past year or so, was Wooyoung's friend. This was unforeseen, since his friend never paid attention to 'unnecessary details'.

Finally, I have a challenge, the vampire thought with a small smile. Someone I don't have to please.

"Oh....you're here," Wooyoung grumbled as San stopped him at the door of the common building. They both eyed each other carefully before the older responded.

"Of course. Last I checked, this place was for both vampires and humans. Not just you."

"I didn't say otherwise, did I?"

"Implying is so much stronger, Darling. I can hear it in your tone, that you don't think these rules are helping."

Wooyoung flinched, always becoming somewhat annoyed when the equality topic was brought up. It was suggested by the vampires, probably to seduce the humans into loving them more, yet they never put in any effort to help.

A small raindrop fell from the heavens and landed harshly against the purplette's head. He groaned, looking up to see the dark grey clouds circling the school building and promising wet weather.

"Come on, we don't want to get caught in this," San gushed, pulling Wooyoung in by his wrist and slamming the door shut behind them.

Loud chatter rung throughout the common building. Humans and vampires alike were wandering around and doing what they did best.

"I'm hungry-" both boys stated at once, turning to glance at each other briefly before releasing slight chuckles.

The older's fangs were visible as he smiled, only there during hunger periods. Much like his red eyes, the fangs were a symbol of his inner demon, and they were hidden for the majority of time beneath a 'human' exterior.

"I was thinking about you last night, Darling," the older eventually murmured softly whilst leading the way into the canteen. Wooyoung shook his head, no longer baffled by his flirtatious comments.

"And why is that?"

"I hadn't realised how bored I had become before meeting you," he smiled slightly, the look immediately disappearing off his face as he entered a public area. Any signs of happiness San shared with Wooyoung were as fleeting as their time together, since the vampire hated showing weakness.

Just as Wooyoung was about to step away and find his one and only friend, a girl bumped straight into him, spilling hot coffee onto his chest.

"Ah, shit," the purplette grimaced, the male behind him hearing the alarm and spinning around to view the issue.

"Oh, sorry...." the girl apologised quickly, tucking her hair behind her ear as she retracted the half empty cup. Her sights shifted to look at the teen's face, and that innocent pout turned into a scowl. "Oh....it's you."

Wooyoung, totally surprised by the change in attitude, picked at his shirt to compensate for the burning sensation. "Ah, yeah. It's me." Though the longer he scanned her face, he began to realise that she was the same female he had saved that night he prevented San from attacking.

"You ruined my life!" She complained, poking his sore chest. "Choi San could've bitten me, and you ruined it!"

Wooyoung took a step back, landing in the vampire's secure arms. He sighed, not wanting some 'hero' to constantly fight his battles like the older had been recently.

"I didn't ruin anything," the youngest fought, "You have no idea how stupid wanting to be bitten is. You do realise that it forces your body to slowly degrade further and further without the aid of pureblood blood, right?!"

"Well, he would've let me-"

"Wooyoung saved your life," San interrupted, voice low and calm. He always managed to project his point efficiently with that aura he was shrouded in. "I assure you, I don't make turning humans into vampires a habit. They have to be.....special."

Without explaining himself further, everyone who had stopped to watch the dramatic scene knew he was referring to his four 'friends'. They were like bodyguards and trusted companions to him, and San treasured them as dearly as Yeosang.

"But...." the girl whimpered, heartbroken by the sad reality the 'love of her life' had displayed. "But you were so close....."

San tsked, running a hand through Wooyoung's lilac hair and shaking his head. "You were mistaken. I had lost control that night, and this boy saved me from creating many problems."

As her eyes fell to the ground, it was clear that she was yet another victim of the pureblood's apparent kindness. He was a gentleman, beautiful, softly spoken and wise. Perfect in many ways.

But he could never be hers, or anyone's as far as the human race were concerned.

Wooyoung tilted his head back to look at the older, sighing and stepping away to stand alone. "Stop butting in," he mumbled before stalking off to find Seonghwa.
