"Darling!" screamed Veronica in a terrified. "The police have gotten closer to finding us and we need to leave now!" Veronica cried as she began to hyperventilate on the blood drenched floor.
"Sweet heart don't worry, we will be alright," Dimitri croaked in a stern cold voice.
"But...bu..." Veronica said quietly.
"No buts, dear, we will just burn down this house and move." Dimitri rasped as he turned to get the wagon ready.
Veronica stood up and obediently nodded her head and she headed straight to the cabinet full of human fat stored to the right of the dissection table.
"Make sure you don't pack any blood this time." Dimitri blurted out bluntly, pointing over to the vats which were labeled red wine. "Everything must burn to the ground" he exaggerated with a smile as he walked out into the dark abyss.
"Yes honey," Veronica answered swiftly in a calm voice as she started to rub all the wood in the house with fat followed by gunpowder from the storage room.
"Sargent Mississippi, what house are we checking next?" Nicholas asked in an inpatient tone as he looked down to see the worn dirt path that held stories past.
"Slow down McMillan, we need to find this kid and the best way to do that is to stay low while we check houses," William explained calmly as he gestured to the group of people slowly turning to watch them.
"But this isn't what I signed up for!" Nicholas snapped back. "I signed up to fight crime and to shoot criminal scum," Nicholas cried.
"Don't be so rash rookie. People here aren't afraid of us and if you dare unclip that holster, don't expect me to come and help!" William warned with venom in his voice as he glanced at the group again now glaring at the officers with a certain despise.
"But why don't they respect us?" Nicholas asked in a integrating tone "We have the power to arrest them!" Nicholas exaggerated his voice getting more and more agitated by the second.
"Because these people were born with more money and power than we could ever earn," William said sternly "And that is that." Now what house is next on the list?" As they went to check the list a rumble of thunder hit the air surrounding them.
"What was that Sargent Mississippi?" yelled Nicolas who was turning to see were the sound came from only to see a wall of fire.
"The house we are meant to check next, so hurry up and help me put out this fire!"
"Sargent Mississippi I found the well!" screamed Nicholas who could now feel the melting heat that radiated from the fire.
"Don't bother rookie it's too late!" William yelled "the best we can do now is check the area for the owners!" "I will check the front, you check the back and we will meet back up at the gate, got it?"
"Yes Sargent!" William yelled as he jogged around the back.
"Honey there are 2 people checking the yards," Veronica said calmly to help hold in her emotions.
"Don't worry darling just cover your face and hop in the wagon," said Dimitri, with not a hint of fear in his voice. As they ran from the blazing mould of their house and prepared the wagon one of the men looking for them had finished his search and was running up to them. "Excuse me Miss, are you the owner of this house?!" shouted the man who they now noticed was an officer of the law.
Veronica shot back, "Yes officer! What should we-" before she was cut off by Dimitri using his celerity to sink his fangs into the man's pale neck"Let's leave before the other one get's back!" He then jumped into the vehicle and held his hand out for Veronica and she entered the carriage . Dimitri whipped the horses to have them gallop and they bolted off.
"Nicholas! Nicholas, where are you?" Mississippi yelled into the the yard before cursing under his breath. By now the fire had managed to settle enough to enter the house, and the Sargent took advantage of this opportunity to search for the rookie and the owners of the house. Not much was found in the remains. Mississippi decided to check what seemed to be a closet. As it creaked open he realised it didn't lead into a closet but rather a full room. The smell hit him first. It was nauseating and he recognised it, "Bodies..." he looked into the room expecting to find two to four, maybe five bodies and instead he found a plethora of rotted and rotting corpses. One was still recognisable, a child, the one that had gone missing not too long ago.
"Jesus Christ..." is all the man could manage to say about the bloodbath he saw in front of him. He rushed out of the building to try and find Nicholas or anyone else, but no one was there. By this time, other officers had been called to the area to investigate the fire. "Sargent, what happened?" asked one of the men. Mississippi responded "The fire was a distraction, it's a slaughterhouse."
