I started writing this two years ago, as a senior in high school with no concrete plans for the future. Feeling hopeless and uncertain, I got back into writing and knew I wanted to create characters that would reiterate the concept that we are not alone in this world, even though it truly feels like that most of the time.
My focus for this story was providing insight into the lives of these characters instead of developing them entirely. I wanted to portray a glimpse of their every day life, a flicker of something readers could hopefully relate to. I made these characters' stories overlap either evidently or subtly to illustrate how much of ourselves we keep hidden beneath the surface, even to those around us.
Above all, I hope this story serves as a reminder that when we're stripped of our worldly possessions, we're essentially the same: attempting to persevere in a world that constantly brings us down.
