"Mom… Dad… I'm gay." Victor said, nervous.
He was coming out to his parents and his sister after kissing Benji at the dance.
“What?!” Pilar almost jumped from the couch. Isabel stared at Victor without knowing what to say. The first one to talk was Armando.
“Come on, flaco, this isn’t funny, don’t joke with that.” Armando said.
“I’m not joking! It’s the truth! This is who I am.” Victor was sweating. “I wasn’t sure, but I know now. I like guys.”
Armando sighed loudly as he got up from his seat.
“Your abuelo was right, you should have kicked those guys out. Look what they have turned you into…”
“Really, dad?” Pilar stood up. “They didn’t “turn him” into a gay person, you can’t choose that!”
Armando looked at his daughter with disappointment.
“I’m going to bed.” Armando left the living room and went to his bedroom, shutting the door behind him.
Tears started to appear in Victor’s eyes as he watched his dad go away. Isabel noticed that and went to hug her son.
“It’s ok, mi amor, everything’s going to be alright. I love you, no matter what. You know that, right?” Isabel put her hand on Victor’s cheek and smiled. “My boy, my rock… You deserve the best, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, ok?”
“Thanks mom.” A tear run down his cheek as he tried to smile. “But dad…”
“Don’t worry about him now. He just… needs some time, but he’ll get over it.” Isabel said, wiping away Victor’s tears.
“And if he doesn’t…” Pilar came closer to Victor and Isabel. “That’s his problem, but I won’t let him do anything to you. I don’t usually say this, and don’t get used to that, but you’re my brother and I love you no matter what happens. We may fight a lot, but if someone tries to hurt you… I will fight them.”
“Pilar…” Isabel sighed.
“No, it’s okay, mom. Thank you, Pilar. I love you too.” Victor hugged her while his mother stared at them, almost crying. Seeing her children love each other made her the happiest woman on Earth.
After some time, Victor said that he was going to bed. He hugged his mom and his sister and went to his room.
Victor took his clothes out and put on his pajamas while he thought about what happened with his dad. He hoped Armando would accept him, but he knew it would take him a while.
Then, his phone rang, and he saw a message from Felix.
“Are you still here? I’m going home now and I haven’t seen you in a while.”
“No, I left like an hour ago.”
He sent the message and opened Benji’s chat and wrote “Just told my parents”, and he got in bed. He knew he wasn’t going to sleep much, but he had to try.

“Hey buddy.” Felix was standing outside the Salazar’s door when Victor opened it.
“Hey.” Victor smiled faintly.
“Are you ok? You look tired.” Both of them started to walk to school.
“Yeah, I’m good.” Victor said.
He wasn’t good, he knew it, and Felix knew it too. Felix stared at him in silence, until Victor spoke again.
“No, I’m not good. I… I came out to my parents last night.” He looked at Felix, who opened up his eyes.
“Really? And what’s wrong with that?”
“My mom and Pilar accepted it, but my dad… He got upset. I disappointed him, Felix. First Mia and now my dad…”
“Wait, Mia?” Felix stopped walking. “Did you tell her yesterday? I thought you wanted to give her a good night.”
“I wanted to, but… Pilar talked to Benji, and then he and Derek argued. Andrew heard me talking to Benji in the bathroom, about the kiss.”
“Wait, did he tell Mia? I’m going to kill him.”
“No, he didn’t. When Benji and Derek argued, I was near, and I talked to Derek. I told him that it was my fault and that Benji didn’t want to lose him. I promised to stay out of their way, and then I went outside. Minutes after, Benji came and sat down with me. He told me he broke up with Derek, and then explained to me that things hadn’t been well for a while. Do you remember the night we went to Mia’s house?”
“The night we played Catan because Mia wanted to have sex with you, but you didn’t want to and then I joined you, Mia got upset and Lake and I ended up making out? Yes, why?” Felix said.
“Well, that night was Benji’s and Derek’s anniversary. Benji had planned a romantic dinner to Derek, recreating their first date, but the dinner didn’t turn out good. When I was going home, I passed by the coffee shop and saw Benji. I talked to him, and I guess Derek doesn’t like romantic things… So yesterday he told me that he wants to be with someone who makes him feel like he can be however he wants to be, you know?”
“Wait, he was talking about you, wasn’t he?”
“Yeah, he told me that. I also feel that… So then we kissed. Several times. And Mia saw us, and then she left.”
“Ooh, that’s why she wasn’t there either. Lake was looking for her because she needed some… feminine advice or whatever. At least that’s what she told me.”
“Wait, Lake? Why would she tell you anything about Mia? I thought she was with Kieran the whole night.” Victor looked confused.
“Oh, yeah, right, you weren’t there.” Felix laughed. “She kissed me. In front of the whole school. She doesn’t worry anymore about what others will think about her.”
“Wait, what?!” Victor stopped walking and looked at his friend. “Does that mean you’re a couple now?”
“I guess so, we haven’t talked about that yet.” Both of them entered the school. “We’ll see what happens.”
“I’m so happy for you, Felix.”
“Hey, what about you and Benji?”
“What about us?” Victor looked at him confused.
“Well, you kissed, and Mia saw you. Does that mean that you have something or…?”
“Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t talked to him yet.” Victor opened his locker and saw some pictures with his friends. Felix playing videogames with Pilar, Benji doing latte art, Mia and Lake making fun of Felix and him… And then he saw a picture of him with Mia. It was from the day she told him about what happened to her mother. They looked so happy together…
Victor needed to talk to Mia. He loved her too much not to talk to her anymore.
