"ding ding!"
the sound of the metalic silver coloured bell rang throughout the salon as people walked in and out of the place.
"hwa, can you help me tend the cash register? i'm supposed to be on duty right now, but ann's out for lunch." a man in his early twenties asked his colleague as he rushed to wear his apron.
"alrighty! by the way, there's a gal wearing a black shirt with geometric prints who is waiting outside, she's probably here for a haircut." his colleague replied.
the man in his twenties pushed the glass door opened and greeted the girl, "hello, welcome to dyeori! are you here to get a haircut?"
the latter simply responded with a timid smile and small nod.
the hairdresser led the girl in to an empty seat as he went to prepare the necessary instruments for the haircut. he cleared his throat and pushed up his semi framed glasses. he questioned what kind of hairstyle she wanted, "so, about 3 centimetres shorter, and a small perm?" the girl replied with a soft yes and the hairdresser began to work the scissors around the girl's hair.
the atmosphere for the hairdresser was a little tense as the latter was quiet throughout the haircut.
nonetheless, he tried to start a conversation with the girl by asking what was her name. "ivana." the latter shyly answered.
"hm, well ivana, nice to meet you! my name's larry, you may call me that or tonight if you'd like to." larry joked as he clicked his tongue and shot a wink towards the girl. with that, ivana's face was flushed with a light pink salmon shade, and let out a small chuckle.
throughout the haircut, larry was mostly initiating small conversations with the raven haired girl about daily life which ivana only responded with a few words or two.
before she knew it, the haircut was done as ivana spaced out at the floor while listening to larry blabber.
ivana pulled out her wallet to pay for the service when larry smiled warmly at her with cresent eyes and thanked her. "thank you for coming, ivana. hope to see you again!" larry greeted the boy as she made a smile back.
on the way out, the newly styled hair girl unlocked her phone to check her instagram messages. until she bumped into a man with black hair and dark blue highlights, causing her phone to slip out of her hands.
"aye, watch your steps-!" the guy who was a little bit bigger in size raised his voice. "sorry- oh my god." ivana was about to return a apology when she realised what just happened.
her phone screen was cracked, badly.
"shit...mom's gonna kill me." ivana cursed under her breath, but loud enough for the guy to hear. "oh my god, i'm so sorry. i didn't mean it." the guy apologized, "it's okay, nevermind. sorry for bumping into you." ivana said, slightly stuttering at the end.
as she was about to turn back to leave, the man cleared his throat, "uh, sorry. here, i'll pay for the repair fees. can i have your line ID?" oh. that wasn't what i was expecting. ivana thought.
they exchanged line IDs and went off their ways after he said, "i'll transfer you the money later."
she was about to thank him but the guy already entered the salon she left from.
she turned back and saw larry making a handshake with the man who she bumped into. "hey man, what's up? so what colour is it this time?" she assumed they were friends.
she glanced inside and saw the male with highlights taking a magazine from the magazine stand.
ivana could have sworn that she found the guy's back look indistinguishably familiar. where did i see him from? she thought.
ivana's eyebrows furrowed and tilted her head sideways as she tried to figure out who the man was. she looked down at the cracked screen and groaned, i'm fucked. she sighed deeply a few times before turning back to leave.
