I fell on the soft grass gasping for as much oxygen as my lungs could hold. My eyes squeezed shut as I coughed; my throat was on fire, and not in the good way. "God..." I heard Charlie sigh as he flopped beside me.
Charlie!? Charlie rescued me? Charlie... Charlie Neil rescued me. Why do I not believe that? I looked around to check if someone else more believable had rescued me, but there was no one.
Slowly, I narrowed my eyes at Charlie, he lay on his back, his broad chest rising and falling quite fast as he tried to steady his beating. I still refused to believe he rescued me, in fact, with him being him, he would have gladly stepped back to smirk and watch me shiver in fear. Maybe Emily told him to? Fat chance of that. I sighed, shaking the thoughts out of my head and turned to face Charlie who had already sat up.
"Ah," I opened my mouth; I had to show my gratitude at least. "Charlie? Thank-"
"What are you? An idiot!?" He interrupted me, shouting on a level I had never imagined. He was always so calm and collective; losing his cool like that was not expected in the slightest. "Why didn't you run away when you had the chance? Damn it, you become so stupid at the wrong times." He sighed in frustration, if I could see his face he would probably be glaring at me. I could almost imagine it, almost.
I sat there frozen; surprised because he actually did save and half because he scolded me as if I had just voluntarily thrown myself in a den of lions.
"They're the... type of guys not to hold back, even on girls." Charlie clearly noticed my shock figure, toning his voice down but I could still hear the faint trembling of anger in voice. How did he know that anyway? He hasn't been here long enough to remember the people in his classes let alone in the higher year. I didn't bother asking him though, something about this situation made me want to stay silent. That fact clearly irritated Charlie.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" He questioned, only for me to open my mouth and for nothing to come out, I shut my mouth. I flinched as another sigh left his lips as he stood up, brushing off his pants. Then he did the completely and utterly unexpected, he bent over in front of me and patted my head, "You were scared, weren't you?" He smiled ever so slightly, before standing up again and turning around.
Ah, I should probably get up, but my legs feel numb all of a sudden? Was my heart beating this fast before? My face is getting hotter, maybe I did run a little too fast. Maybe I'm sick? The thumping won't stop, my chest hurts.
"Oi, twat, hurry it up!" Charlie called back at me, the usual mean voice had returned, and my heart stopped beating so unusually. I'm probably getting a bit feverish, better take some medicine as soon as I can.
"Hey..." I called out to Charlie who was walking way too fast for me to handle. "Where is it exactly that we ran to? I don't recognize the street, do you live somewhere here? It's seem we're pretty far..." When I noticed that Charlie was refusing to answer me, I can to the realisation that we were lost. Completely lost, because if I didn't recognize this place neither would Charlie. In other words; we're screwed.
"How could you get lost!?" I demanded running up to him.
"Were not lost, just slightly displaced." He wouldn't face me and walked right passed me.
"Displaced? Displaced!? What am I? A little girl's china doll? I should have known this would happen, we couldn't ran into a completely new neighbourhood could we? Wait, what am I talking about? It's Charlie after all!" I was seriously beginning to panic.
"Will you shut up! We'll sit down for a while and think about it," At least he didn't hit me.
So, after several minutes, several long, long minutes of contemplating on what to do; no one said anything, at all.
"..." I froze as I heard Charlie mutter something, well, at least I thought he did.
"Did you say something?"
He didn't respond to me but I was pretty sure he was mumbling something under that waterfall of hair. "Well, if you are, I can't hear a word."
"I SAID I WAS SORRY! HOW MANY BLOODY TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT MYSELF!?"
"Well if that birds nest you call hair wasn't in the way, I would ask for you to repeat it!"
"Leave me and my hair the hell alone!"
"Speaking of your hair, why don't you freaking cut it!? It's so annoying!" We had already pulled towards each other, fists clenched as I held back the urge to pull his hair out right then.
"That's none of your freaking business!"
"The hell it is." At the moment nothing could stop me from pulling his hair off of his face. For some reason, the fact I couldn't see his face annoyed me more than it should have, and now that I've done it. I don't know if I can say I regret it or not, because at that moment my heart leaped into my throat.
