21 Astris of the year 13004
"Are you nervous?"
I jump at the sudden sound of Galen's voice. Spirits why must he do this? Wait, did he walk out of the bushes? "Did you just come out of the bushes?"
Galen looks behind him and blushes. "...Yes,"
Why? "How long have you been there?"
Galen sheepishly grins and rubs the back of his neck. Oh, here we go. He took a nap in the tree. He knows he's not supposed to do that.
"A good while. Don't tell your Father but I was bored and decided to take a nap in the tree but I guess I fell out," Spirits Galen. You know you're not supposed to nap in trees. He hasn't done that in years. The last time he did that he broke his arm. He still has the scar from where High Healer Tanyth fixed it.
"Anyway, are you nervous?"
"Yes I'm nervous," I gesture to my fancy dress. It looks like I'm getting married. I suppose in a way I am. Only not to a person but to the spirits. "This dress looks like—"
"A wedding dress," Galen finishes.
"Exactly!"
"You look beautiful," He says holding his hand out. I blush at the comment. I know I do. I took a peak at my reflection before I left my room. It's a stunning dress.
I take the general's hand. It's warm and filled with callouses. Somehow it fits perfectly with mine. Another sign from the spirits.
"Thank you..." Holy fae. I'm a spirit mage now. I can kick Galen's ass. "oh! I can spar you and win!"
"In your dreams Princess!" He says leaning his face inches from mine.
"In my dreams. Ha, more like real life. I am a Spirit Mage,"
"Ah, you forget I am too" He grins, flashing me his white teeth.
Spirits I forgot.
"Everest! It's time!" Uncle Aveyard yells down the steps of the great hall.
The great hall is separate from the castle. It's a large hall meant for parties and grand events. Father usually holds balls there. He finds it too stuffy in the throne room. The great hall is beautiful. Father says it reminds him of Vanora. To him its a slice of his old home.
"Coming!" I yell back before turning to Galen. "You ready Gale?"
The general has the honour of escorting me to the hall. Galen smiles down at me. "Absolutely. Are you?"
"Always." I smile and squeeze Galen's hand. He returns the squeeze.
He leads me up the steps of the Great Hall. At the front of the Hall, Father stands with a grin plastered on his face. Once there Galen lets my hand go and leaves me to kneel in front of my Father.
"Do you Everest Avalonion promise to use your powers for good and only good?" Father asks, his voice loud and clear. As Kings should be.
"Yes, I do."
"Do you promise to be loyal and protect your Spirits?"
"Yes, I do."
"And last, do you promise to serve the High Spirit with the utmost dignity?"
"Yes, I do."
"Then I dub thee a Spirit Mage," Father smiles.
I look up at him. Father's bright red marks are on display. Father's expression tells me he couldn't be prouder. I smile and let my markings show. A warmth passes along my limbs. A quick glance at my hand tells me they are on full display.
