"Slow down Kaiya!" I hissed at the girl I was struggling to keep up with. I slowed down, running out of breath. "The gym will still be here in 2 minutes,"
"Yeah, but Futamata might not be!" She squealed as she finally stopped on the steps of the marble gym. It was becoming harder and harder to keep up with her everyday. "Well, how do I look?"
She struck a pose as her black hair and skirt swayed in the wind. Her deep blue eyes were gleaming as she looked in the window to the gym. Nothing like having a boy crazy best friend that drags you to volleyball games so she can watch her crush play huh?
"You look amazing as always, now can we go inside now? I'm burning up out here," I complained, opening the door to the gym and feeling the cool air.
"Oh right, sorry,"
I held the door open for Kaiya as she waved towards Takeharu Futamata, her crush and setter of the Johzenji volleyball team. I didn't understand why I even had to come along, but I was just here to be supportive of her I suppose.
I rolled my eyes and pulled my backpack around and started rummaging through it, searching for my sketchbook. I might as well practice my art skills while I'm not doing anything important.
Kaiya and I walked upstairs to the seating area and plopped down in the front row. She leaned over the edge, staring in awe.
"Kaiya, calm down, it can't be that exciting," I told her as I grabbed my pencil and sketchbook from my bag.
"They're all so good though,"
"What're they even practicing?" I asked, flipping pages in my book.
"Two on two matches right now," Kaiya replied, not moving her eyes away from the court.
I sighed, peering over the edge to watch the team play.
"Futamata is on that court," Kaiya said pointing to the court closest to us.
I peeked over to the court just as Kaiya was doing, staring at the side of the court Futamata was playing on. But it wasn't him I was staring at. It was the person he was playing with. He had a blonde undercut and was wearing a black muscle shirt. I couldn't see what he looked like closer up considering I was looking at him from above.
There was no doubt about it, this was what I was looking for. I hadn't had any inspiration to draw for a while now, but suddenly I got the urge to draw this guy.
I set my sketchbook on my lap as I watched him play. Futamata set him up and the mystery guy ran and smacked the ball so that the other pair couldn't receive it. He jumped in the air in excitement. I quickly started drawing him hitting the ball across the net.
I was so focused on what I was doing I didn't even notice that the practice was nearing its end.
"Y/n, let's go, I wanna say hi to Futamata," Kaiya urged me as I closed my sketchbook and slung my backpack over my back. We briskly walked down the steps as I approached Futamata with Kaiya.
"Hey Kaiya, hey Y/n," The sweat-covered athlete greeted us.
"Hi Futamata," I responded.
"You did so good!" Kaiya praised the volleyball player as I looked around for the boy I had drawn. I couldn't see him anymore, was it possible he already left practice? I wanted to get a closer look at him so I could finish my sketch with accuracy. Nothing more.
I zoned out from my friends' conversation when I heard an unfamiliar voice. I spun around to find the inspiration of my art standing right in front of me.
