"Pick up the fucking pace! You too Izuku! No slacking!"
Izuku was walking as fast as he could carrying the box in his arms, but he was quickly losing his breath. He panted and looked around at everyone around him. To them, this was the easiest thing they've done all week, but it was draining his energy quicker than any of the experiments he had went through earlier that day.
"I'm serious!" Shigaraki yelled, fist clutching his fist around the whip in his hand. Izuku gulped and started walking faster. You see, Izuku has something called ASD. Atrial Septal Defect is when a person is born with a hole in their lungs. The hole increases the amount of blood that flows through the lungs and gives the person who has it a 70% greater risk of death than the general population.
There is a surgery that can help it and stop it from causing even more damage to the lungs and heart, but because Izuku is a walking illegal being, there is no way the government would ever pay for him to get the treatment. That's why he had to get out of the orphanage. He had to find some way to leave Japan. In most parts of America, having a quirk was allowed. Some people there used it to do bad, but that is why there were good people who used their quirks to protect the civilians. He looked up to them.
He was going to find a way to leave that stupid prison of an orphanage and he was going to go there. He was going to find some way to get the surgery, and he was going to be a hero.
That was his dream. But no matter how much he wanted it, he knew it was never gonna happen. And the chapped lip man with pale blue hair was just a daily reminder of that fact. He wasn't going to be able to make it all the way to America. He had no way to get there, no money for a plane ticket, plus the minute he broke away he became a fugitive and the police were allowed to kill him if he ever deactivated his bracelet.
The bracelet is a nasty metal band that digs tiny needles right into your wrist that cancels your quirk. Once its off, after a little while, your quirk breaks through its restraints and returns to you.
Izuku longed to feel One For All coursing through him. But it had been too long. The last time he felt it was when he was 2 and he doesn't even remember how it felt.
Suddenly he felt a sharp pain on his back and he let out a small yelp as he fell to his knees. "I said no fucking slacking! Why the hell don't any of you listen!"
Tomura had whipped him while he was lost in thought. He couldn't breathe. All the air from his lungs were gone. He gasped for air and was a coughing fit. "Fuck. This again? If this keeps happening, boss isn't going to let me run this field anymore." Shigaraki grumbled as he ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
Tomura always pushed Izuku way past his limits. He knew about ASD. All the leaders there did. He was the only one who still pushed him though. Once he began to lose his breath, the rest of the leaders just dismissed him to a different field. Not Shigaraki. It took Izuku to feel like he was actually dying for him to send Izuku away to the infirmary. That wasn't anything new. Dozens of kids died in a month at that stupid orphanage.
Everyone in Japan knew that no kids survived till they became adults there. They either died from body failure from all the work, accidents, food poisoning, the experiments or they were really murdered by one of the leaders and it was made to look like an accident. Izuku was 16, turning 17, so he knew he only had a little amount of time to find a way to run.
He could feel himself dying. Everyone at the orphanage at his age group did. Their lives were slipping away.
"Take the little punk to the infirmary before I have another death in my field and a whole lot of paperwork." he told a guy named Dabi.
Dabi just blinked in boredom before walking to the curly haired boy on the ground and leaned down to scoop him up. "Come on." he said, voice monotone as he carried Izuku away from Shigaraki and to the infirmary. He was silent the whole way, ignoring Izuku's desperate coughs and gasps.
He slid the slide door open and carried Izuku in. Toga, the nurse looked up from whatever magazine she was reading and she shook her head as Dabi laid the boy on the bed. "How many times is this now from this week Izuku?" she asked, standing up. Izuku didn't respond. He was too busy trying to catch his breath.
Toga sighed. She was one of the only nice people there at the orphanage beside Yagi Toshinori, better known as All Might. Why was his nick name All Might? Well, because he was one of the most skilled doctors in all of Japan. He has cured more patients than any other doctor in the country.
He only started working in the orphanage, not that he would tell anyone, because of Midoriya. It was his own fault that Izuku was there in the first place. He was the one who gave Izuku a quirk. It saved his life, but death would have been so much better than what he had to go through now. He never told the young boy, but he saved his life. All Might was there when Inko Midoriya, Izuku's mom, gave birth to him. Once he saw the little baby he couldn't watch it die. As a doctor, he had seen many people die, but there was something about this little boy that made his heart squeeze too tightly to just watch him die.
Plus, he had to pass OFA down before it faded completely. Izuku seemed to be the best option. It was a win win. He could have found a successor and Izuku got to keep his life.
Izuku clutched his chest as he coughed, huffed, and gasped. No matter how much he tried, not enough air was entering his lungs. There was a sharp pain in his chest that only made him cough even more. The blonde nurse clasped her hand over Izuku's mouth and nose. His eyes widened as it became harder to breathe. "Jesus, Izuku, chill out. When hyperventilating it's good to hold your breath."
His eyes softened as he held his breath, her hand over his mouth helping him resist the urge to gasp as much air as he could. "Just hold on a minute." she turned her head to face Dabi with a small smile. "Before you go, could you ring up All Might?"
Dabi scanned the room, contemplating in his mind. He just shrugged and walked to the phone. He dialed All Might's phone number but it went straight to voice mail.
All Might was in a meeting. All Might was one of the main leaders which means when the boss went to a meeting with a business needing a product to be tested, he had to go. Currently he was at a meeting with a company that needed a spray tested. It's supposed to stop sweat but the last version they made did a number on some men.
His phone vibrated in his pocket and he took it out, quickly hanging up, not even looking to see who it was. "Did it kill any of them?" All For One asked. The men sitting across from them shook his head. "No, it wasn't deadly or the least bit fatal. It just gave them some blisters and a real nasty rash."
All For One agreed. "Okay, when will the shipment be in? Right now we have some kids carrying boxes of some other stuff we're testing so if it's not already ready, make sure it is by next week."
The man nodded frantically and stood, extending his hand. All For One stood too and shook it. "Thank you." he bowed and All For one nodded. "No problem. I don't care if the demons here get a little bit of an irritation."
The man just smiled nervously.
As soon as the meeting ended All Might called back whoever had called him. "Hey, what is it?"
"All Might! You need to get here now! It's Izuku! He's been trying to catch his breath for like 30 minutes now! His condition is no fucking joke!"
All Might's eyes widened as he could hear the heavy panting and pained coughs in the background. "If you don't hurry..." she trailed off but he knew. If he didn't hurry, she doesn't think he'll hurry.
He ran as fast as he could to the infirmary not stopping once until he got there. He threw the door open to reveal Toga doing her best to assist a now purple faced Izuku. "I-It's gonna be okay young Midoriya, because I am here."
