it's a calico this time, sitting on his lap. He wonders what colour its eyes are, if it's a girl or a boy. He's used to having an orange one in his lap. He has a feeling that one's a boy. It almost looks like it's wearing glasses, but it's always so fuzzy. He can't really tell.
The cat jumps off of his lap at a sudden loud noise. He looks up and feels his face turn into a scowl. He must be annoyed. He looks up and sees a familiar blue shape. It gets closer until it looks like a person. A short conversation is had. He can't make out the words.
Another shape enters the room. This one's pink. He's seen these human-shaped colours often, but doesn't know who they are.
He stands then and looks down. He feels his arms move, his hands come in contact with something soft. It's purple. He must be brushing cat hair off of himself. He starts walking towards the coloured shapes, and together they leave the room, before entering another.
He looks out the window of this new room. He thinks it must be nighttime, because all he sees through it is darkness.
The blue shape approaches again. It looks more and more human the closer it gets. It's handing him something. Light blue fabric. He takes it.
He feels himself removing his clothes, before putting on the new, light blue ones. He's seen them before, too.
Someone says something. He can't tell what, but feels himself nod. Then he's sitting on something soft. Beside him, the blue sits, then beside the blue is the pink. Though both are now light blue, he still somehow knows.
Suddenly, everything is dark. More is said, and he replies, but he can't hear it. He feels himself lay down, and close his eyes.
Osomatsu opened his eyes, remembering his dream. He smiled to himself. So, that was them getting ready for bed, huh? He wondered, not for the first time, what gender his soulmate was. He'd never seen anything in his dreams that would indicate it, and everything was always so blurry, he couldn't even tell when he saw them changing.
He sat up and stretched, and looked over to his left. There lay Choromatsu, v-shaped frown ever-present, and beside him, Jyushimatsu, open-mouthed smile ever-present.
His little brothers were so cute.
He wondered if his soulmate was cute. Of course the were, he was sure of it! Who else but a cutie would be surrounded by cats? They were kind, too, always taking care of the many cats they had around. He wondered for a moment if they were some crazy cat lady, but brushed the thought away.
He shouldn't judge them before he met them, that'd be rude. Ah, he just hoped he'd meet them soon.
He got out of the futon, knowing he wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. It wasn't every night he had those dreams, but when he did, he woke up in a good mood.
Even when his dreams were of his soulmate's more mundane memories, he still enjoyed them. They helped him learn more about them. They wore mostly purple, loved cats, and were always around someone wearing blue, sometimes blindingly bright, and someone wearing pink. He knew their posture wasn't the best. He knew they didn't talk much, seemed to be a wallflower. And he wanted nothing more at the moment than to meet them.
Finally, after he'd dressed, his brothers woke up. They saw Osomatsu wearing his red hoodie, and got theirs. Choromatsu's was green, and he wore a button-up beneath it, and Jyushimatsu's was yellow, with very long sleeves.
They ate breakfast, and over the meal, decided to spend the day together.
They went fishing for a while, came home for lunch, went to pachinko, the horse races, and just walked around town. Eventually, they decided it was inner time, and unanimously voted for oden.
Osomatsu was so busy laughing at Jyushimatsu's antics, and Choromatsu's attempts to reign him in, he didn't notice there were already three people at the stand.
Until they spoke.
"Oh! More people! Here, let us make room, brothers.
"Alright. Oi, Ichimatsu-niisan, scoot this way."
"Fine."
The voices made him pause. Had he heard them before? He looked at the bench, and his heart stuttered at what he was. Blue, so familiar. Pink, so familiar. And purple, so, so familiar!
"Eh? Osomatsu-niisan?"
"What's wrong, Nii-san?
The purple figure finally turned around, looked, and stared.
"Is it... is it you?" Osomatsu choked out.
"You," the man whispered. He stood up and walked, so slow he was more shuffling, over to Osomatsu. Osomatsu closed the distance as well. Knowing how to get the answer, they each raised a hand to chest height. They touched, just barely, just their fingertips, and suddenly the dreams they remembered stopped being foggy.
Every time a mirror was seen, this man's face was looking back, suddenly so clear.
This was it.
He found him.
The moment got to Osomatsu, and he threw his arms around his soulmate's shoulders. The other stumbled, but meekly brought his arms around Osomatsu as well.
Pulling apart, they smiled, Osomatsu's bright and open as he introduced himself, Icimatsu's small and shy as he did the same.
"Ah, young love. Say, Soulmate-san's brothers? Perhaps we should leave them to get acquainted?" The blue on suggested. Jyushimatsu and the pink one giggled together, and Choromatsu just agreed.
The four left, leaving the new lovers to their first date.
