There was a man who had two sons. One was called Nnamdi and the other, Ejike. When their father died, they lived alone with their mother, Enuma. Nnamdi, the else of the two sons, was very clever and hardworking, but was selfish and wicked. Ejike was rather kind and simple, but was dull.
After the death of their father Nnamdi did most of the job to keep his brother, Ejike and their mother. Ejike, though willing to work hard, was not clever enough to contribute to the welfare of the family. Nnamdi did not like this and was worried.
After some time, Nnamdi became impatient with Ejike. "I can no longer support you, you are lazy," he said to Ejike. "You should go out of this house and take care of yourself."
Ejike was not happy with this. He went to his mother and narrated the story to her. He decided to put his few things together ta avoid quarreling with his brother. Their mother was very angry about this. She pleaded with Nnamdi, but he refused. She then swore to follow Ejike to wherever he would go. "Let us go, leave the house for your wicked brother," she said, weeping.
The next day, Ejike  and his mother took their things and left the house. Initially, they had no place in mind to go. After walking for a long distance, they came to am empty hut on a hilltop. They went in and discovered that there was no one inside it. They decided to sleep there for the night. The next morning, very early, Ejike took an axe and went into the bush. He found A big log of wood and began to cut it. By evening, he had cut alot of wood. He brought the woods too the town and sold them for a good sum of money. Ejike was happy that he could make such a big success. He came back to his mother full of joy.
"I have made success today, there is no need to worry again, we shall survive the times," he said to his mother.
Ejike and his mother continued going to the bush for wood, they cut and sold it. They began to feed well, and were happy once again. As they progressed in the wood business, Ejike got good sum of money and rebuilt the house they lived in.
Meanwhile, his elder brother, had married. His wife, Chioma, was a wicked woman. She loved spending too much money on herself because she was beautiful. She was not hardworking as her husband.
One day when their mom went to the market she met Nnamdi and his wife but as a good mom she took Nnamdi in.
