CHAPT. 9

On the other side of the wall was Markus. He had stayed up all night in deep thought. He had a puzzled look on his face that overthrew his usual stern tone. He fell in love with someone who wants to kill him. Well, more like wanted. That was in the past, and Connor is now a deviant. He noted that Connor's personality has evolved immensely from what he was programmed to be.

Before, he was supposed to be intelligent, determined, and positive, meant to see the glass half full. And he still is, except for the last one. The glass had been spilled ever since he became a deviant. Connor's personality has been wracked with a feeling that is commonly known as 'depression'. This is severely noticeable in the brunette. How he always appears sad, or lost, how he is anxious nonstop, always on high alert and on-edge. Markus had quickly grown to be deeply concerned for his well-being, and in the process, a fondness for the boy has developed.

Markus sighed. Just then, he realized that he hadn't gotten a bout of sleep last night and lightly scowled at the sun. He was usually always in a good mood, but right now, he was conflicted with his feelings. He slowly stood up from his office chair and walked into the bathroom to splash water on his face. It was weird, because androids don't need to use restrooms, so toilets weren't necessary, but whatever.

Markus suddenly became curious. What if he were to spend the whole day with his crush? What if he were to admit his feelings? What if Connor liked him back? What if he didn't? Would he be nervous about it? Probably. Markus had to admit, he liked seeing Connor flustered. He knew that he was capable of making him flustered, he had done it at least fifteen times this past week. If that was something to go by, then it would be subtle proof that Connor liked him back. He was really tempted to tell him as soon as possible, but he knew that he had to grow some self-control and wait for the perfect moment.

Connor and the other leaders had taken a field day to (do whatever you do after you win a war as pacifist). Of course, Connor was reluctant at first, but he knew that he couldn't isolate himself especially if it meant being near his crush. As they were walking back to their rooms from the event, Markus stopped Connor right in front of his door to speak with him.

"Hey, Connor!" Markus calmly called.

Connor jumped, and quickly turned his head to face the man.

"M-Markus..! D-do you need anything?"

"Uh, yeah. Can we talk for a moment?"

Connor's expression changed slightly. He subconsciously smiled. He nodded, letting the smile show fully. Markus' face heated up at the sight of the brunette smiling.

"Let's be honest. Are you comfortable here?" Connor's expression dropped, confused.

"Yes, why?"

"I just wanted to know." Markus averted his eyes.

"Because, I am the leader and it is my duty to know the wellbeing of my colleagues." Markus smirked, using a slight mocking tone.

Connor shyly turned his head, giggling.

"Yes, Markus. I am fine here."

Markus sighed in relief.

"Good. I don't know what I'd do without you, Con."

Connor blushed, slightly giddy.

"T-thank you, Markus." He paused for a moment, before continuing. "..Me neither."

Markus patted Connor's shoulder with a playful smirk.

"Is that so~?" He said in a deep tone.

Connor's eyelashes fluttered shut and he lightly nodded. Markus mentally gawked at the beautiful sight of his crush right next to his face, eyes closed. While in the spur of the moment, Markus moved his hand to Connor's cheek and ran his thumb against it gently, then just as quickly pulled his hand back, to prevent the encounter from getting awkward, even though it always was.

"Thanks for talking, Connor, but I... Need to go do some things." Markus grimaced regrettably.

Connor opened his eyes again and firmly nodded, understanding that the older man had many things to do.

"I understand, Markus. Do what you must. I-I'll just be.. Over there.. If you need anything.." He pointed to his door and Markus sadly smiled. He patted Connor's shoulder again and turned to walk to his quarters.

When Markus disappeared from sight, Connor took a deep breath and sighed it out, letting his head fall against the wall he was leaning on.

He all of a sudden felt very weird. Weird and uncomfortable. He felt a weird sense of dread and embarrassment, similar to the feeling he had when he was being spectated from a distance. It unnerved him immensely and he couldn't shake the feeling. It always stuck, and he hated it. But it wouldn't leave him alone. There was no way to escape the feeling except to let it pass, which it hadn't.

He opened his door and walked in, with the sense of being followed. He decided that it was probably just his proximity sensors becoming faulty, but was suddenly drenched in fear when his diagnostic showed up negative.
