I blinked my eyes to a loud knocking on my door. I groaned and rolled over pressing my face into my pillow, Tempest and Stella stretched and yawned, hopping down and scurrying towards the door. I sighed and sat up, wishing I could stay in the cozy bed for longer. I climbed out of the bed and padded to the door, twisting it open to reveal a grinning Alpha.
"Good morning sunshine! Time to get you in the swing of things! I know you're not completely helpless, but we're going to need to improve your skills if you're going to be a part of the team! "
I slowly blinked at the cheery man in front of me and huffed. I suppose he's right, but that wasn't going to stop me from complaining to myself. I nodded in reply and he continued to chatter on I internally rolled my eyes then caught my breath when the door across the hall behind Alpha opened. Tanks tall figure stood in the door frame and sauntered into the middle of the hallway. Alpha glanced over his shoulder then continued on talking, Tank and I's eyes were locked, I held my breath. He was wearing black pants with a fitted long sleeve black shirt. He leaned his weight on one foot then grinned at me and with a wink walked off. I let out the breath I was holding then refocused on Alpha.
"Alright, now get dressed grab your dog/cats and meet us in the kitchen. I'm sure you're starving and you've got a big day ahead of you!"
He rubbed his hands together and hopped towards the kitchen. For such a burly man he sure was animated. I sighed and shut my door and turned to the closet to get dressed. Having only the option of black pants and black turtlenecks, I chose black pants and black a black turtle neck obviously. As I slipped the combat boots on, Tempest and Stella began scratching at my door. A moment later there was a soft knock at the door. As I was lacing up my boot I called out for whoever to come in. Riot poked his head in and smiled brightly then stepped inside. He knelt to pat the foxes heads then directed his attention back towards myself.
"Good morning! I hope you slept well. I figured I'd check on you before breakfast to make sure you're doing alright."
I smiled at the thoughtfulness as I finished lacing up my boot. I stood and walked over to stand next to him as he continued stroking the foxes fur. He leaned his head up and grinned. He was extremely handsome. His dreads were pulled back from his face and his hazel eyes sparkled with warmth and kindness. I could melt in those eyes. I snapped back and smiled back.
"I'm doing great, I appreciate you checking on me"
He stood up so it was me straining my neck back to look at him. We giggled at each other and he lifted his hand, chucking my chin with a chuckle then turning to open my door. I blushed as he held it open for me and walked ahead of him, Stella and Tempest running ahead as I head towards the kitchen. As we close in to our destination, Riot places his hand on the small of my back to usher me ahead of him. My skin tingled where he had touched me and I blushed, as we entered the kitchen my eyes connected with Tanks who was sitting at the table eating scrambled eggs. I blushed darker thinking of the night before and watched as his eyes moved from my own to narrowing them at Riot a he saw how close he stood behind me. I looked down and walked over to a grinning Alpha and huffy Athena, taking the plate of steaming scrambled eggs that was held out to me. I smiled and took a seat at the corner of the table opposite of Tank, I let out the breath I didn't even know I was holding as Alpha slid into the seat next to me. Athena took the seat furthest from me on Tanks left and Riot took the seat to his right across from me. I was self conscious as I ate my breakfast and turned my attention to Alpha who was reading from a tablet.
"Since y'all brought back a pretty decent supplies hull yesterday, including our lovely Phoenix here, today will be mostly getting her up to speed on training and getting the lay of the land. Team B can handle the boarders today. Seeing as Nix here has survived this long i'm sure she's not completely helpless so this shouldn't be too hard. Athena and Tank, you'll be in charge of weapons and will take her to the armory when you finish eating, Riot and I will handle combat. Any questions?"
He didn't wait for a response as he stood up, lightly bonked my head with a fist then strutted out. What an odd man. I turned my attention to the three in front of me and examined each of their faces as they ate. Athena refused to look at my and stabbed at her eggs aggressively. I sighed, wondering if we'd ever get along. I turned my attention to Tank, his piercing eyes flitted to mine and he stuck his chin out with a half smile on his lips, daring me to ogle more. I rolled my eyes then looked to Riot. He was happily munching on his eggs when he lifted his gaze to mine, as if he felt my eyes on him. He smiled brightly then went back to his meal.
"How were the four of you picked for Team A?"
Might as well ask questions instead of sitting in silence.
"Five."
I turned to Athena who was still stabbing at her eggs, but her eyes met mine this time.
"There's five of us. Scorpion is at another base for confidential reasons. He's due back next week."
The way she talked about him led me to believe they had something going on. My heart did a little jump at the thought of being able to have a real relationship. My eyes flitted between Tank and Riot then blushed and finished my eggs. I carried my plate and fork to the sink washing them off and putting them away. Athena and Tank stood an did the same, Riot still happily eating waved as his partners directed me towards the armory.
I trailed behind the two Anon soldiers with Stella and Tempest at my heels, I stared at the back of their heads straining to hear what they mumbled about. Athena was shorter then my five feet nine inches and curvy, her gait held determination and purpose. She demanded respect even with her small frame. Tanks tall lanky frame held an air of arrogance. He was lean with a lazy walk, he'd turn his head to look down at me every so often with that half smile on his face. I blushed annoyed and intimidated by his attitude. They opened the door to the courtyard outside the barracks and kept walking down the trail leading to other buildings. I looked at the sky getting lost in the clouds, thinking of how this was the first time in a long time I felt safe. My thoughts were scattered when I smacked right into Tanks side stumbling back. I was so lost in my thoughts I hadn't noticed they had stopped walking in front of a concrete building. Tank looked down at me and grinned at my clumsiness, Athena rolled her eyes and headed towards the entrance, trailed by Tank and I. She scanned a badge at the entrance and the doors slid open then shut after we filed in. She led us down the twists and turns of the armory halls, Tank had his hands in his pockets lazily walking behind me. My eyes ate up the details around the room, the armor that was hung up, helmets, vests, and all kinds of protective gear.
"Pretty cool huh"
I jumped at the sound of Tanks voice in my ear, he had leaned down to speak directly in it. I nodded at him, not daring to turn my head towards him, I wasn't sure what was going on between us, but he seemed dangerous. I kept my composure and quickened my pace to catch up to Athena leaving a grinning Tank behind. As we approached a range, Athena turned to the back wall, unhooked a few latches and slid open the wall revealing all kinds of guns. My jaw dropped and for the first time that i've seen Athena smiled, her hands on her hips like a proud mom. Tank leaned against the wall of weapons and grinned too.
"Welcome to the armory darlin"
