MISHAPS WITH LOVE

CHAPTER ONE :

"THE LOVE OF MY LIFE is getting married!"

Theo sneeringly cheered tilting his head back to down the glass of beer weighing heavily in his hand. The words were poisonous and bitter leaving the tip of his tongue, every ounce of pain traced in the evidently angry tone. The glass of beer smashed against the counter followed by a loud bang scaring the bartender from drying out a champagne flute. Theo was already buzzed three glasses in, mind swaying once the liquid ran dry.

"I just don't understand what she sees in that viagra popping senile fucker." The bartender let out a pitiful smile grabbing the glass to pour a refill. "He makes an old leather couch that was sat outside for months look desirable."

"Maybe to her it's the inside that counts."

Theo rolled his eyes at that. Everyone has a certain shallow tendency to want to be with an attractive person even when they claim they don't; there was no way someone with more wrinkles than a naked mole rat has a personality that outshines the exterior, Theo ranted in his mind. Maybe, he has a large horse cock beneath those ugly khaki shorts he usually wears and she wants to cut it off to sell it to the black market. That'd make more sense than being in love with him.

There was a certain bad day that Theo can handle; the usual waking up late for work and being forced to drink shitty coffee after staying up til the brink of dawn because he wanted to binge a new baking show, then being forced to deal with boisterously loud co-workers; the frequent poor life choices of a twenty-five year old. Instead of the usual bad days, he woke up with a wedding invitation with the love of his life's named neatly placed next to a random art gallery owner she met in Boston.

He still remembered falling on the wooden floor overwhelmed in shock and the letter falling beside me. Eyes blearing with tears, heart beating against his ribs, wrapping his arms around his legs and pulling them towards his chest in an attempt to calm down. The realization struck that he was too late, a thought that he would lose her always subsided in his mind every time she would wave good bye and was out of his sight.

Theo shook his head in remembrance wrapping his hands against the fresh cup of beer the bartender slid towards him. Love's a fools game and people who play it are never winners, a lesson to be learnt with the news.

He quickly chugged down half the glass in one go ignoring the hung over that will follow the day after, he just wanted to forget. Theo contemplates taking another chug knowing it probably is a bad idea but remembers that having the wedding invitation still on his mind was even a worse idea and brings the glass to his lips and takes a long sip.

The patrons beside him stared at him concerned then continued talking in hushed whispers, Theo didn't care how irresponsible he was being. Drinking at a random shitty pub filled with nameless faces, it was an out of character thing for him to do. But, he simply didn't care enough.

It took everything not to retch when taking another distasteful sip of the beer, he's known for being insanely low tolerance with alcohol and usually passes out after quarter of a drink. But, somehow he was on his fourth drink wishing that the pain would stop.

"Rough day?" He was greeted with a bright smile and eyes twinkling in the dimly lit lights.

"You have no idea." Theo realized that after chugging most of his drink that the pub was basically empty; him and the new customer were probably the last remnants of the once sea of people. The stranger pulled up a stool next to him ordering a glass of cola with a sweet smile.
