CHAPTER THREE
“Wait! Wait!” I heard a voice yell behind me.
I could tell it was running behind me.
I just kept running. Faster and faster.
I ran until I couldn’t hear the voice anymore.
I walked a good half-mile until I had to sit down. I was at the park I was before. I laid down my suitcases below the bench and sat down. I had held in the tears for this long.
I started crying all my feelings out.
I hid my face. I don’t know how long I did this for.
“Who are you?” I heard someone say from about a meter away.
I looked up to see Louis.
“Why are you following me?” I whimpered, not answering his question.
“To be honest, I think there is something interesting about you. I don’t know. There is just this feature about you that you are alone and are hiding from something. If its your feelings I don’t know…” He responded.
I looked up at him and said, “Why should I tell you anything? I barley know you.” I said, and began to pick up my suitcases.
“Please don’t leave again. I want to know you.” He said.
“I cant trust anyone.”
“Please I wont hurt you.”
“I don’t care. No matter how much you seem to care, no matter how nice you are being. Sorry if u think I am rude but I can take care of myself, keep my feelings to myself, and can ran away all by my self. Like I will again now…” I said and picked up my suitcases.
“Please.” He said quietly.
“I’m sorry.” I said, and started to walk away. I was trying to ignore the fact that I just turned down one of my favourite band members.
He isn’t trustworthy. He is just trying to get me to like him, then leave. You know it…
I kept rambling on with myself.
I saw the sun slowly begin to fall, and I decided it was time to rest. I was walking on the edge of the railroad.
The very one that my dad had died on.
I saw a big, shady tree, an decided to make a camp there.
When I got closer, I saw a big pile of leaves. The tree actually went on for a long distance, and there was a couple other trees similar to this one. It was actually quite beautiful inside.
The whole little area acted as a small hide out for people like me, but was unoccupied.
Maybe I could stay here a while.
I rested my back against the big tree trunk and got comfortable.
Then I heard footsteps in the leaves. I perked up my head. Startled.
I turned my head in both directions and craned my neck like an owl.
The steps started up again. Coming closer to where I was sitting. But I still couldn’t see anyone.
“Who is there?” I asked. Looking around again.
“Please…” Is all I heard.
“Louis… i… I just…” I started.
“Please just talk to me.”
“Well…. If im going to talk t you, you need to come where I can see you.
He stepped out from behind the tree I was laying on and sat on a tree stump beside me.
“WHats your name?” he asked.
“Alicia.” I said
“Why did you run away?” he asked.
“Why did you follow?” I asked.
“I told you. There is something intriguing about you. Just something hidden. If you don’t want to tell me its fine I just want to talk to you. ask what is going on. Who you are…” He rambled.
“Fine. I will tell you.” I blurted out.
“Why did they pick on you?” he asked me.
“No one likes me. Even at school. That Katie girl is so popular and decides to pick on all the nerds at school. I don’t know why they hate me. I am the quiet girl in the corner. She made it her life goal to embarrass me in front of the school and her friends. I’m guessing you guys in this case… and she knows all of my little secrets... even what goes on at hom…” I stopped immediately.
“Wait goes on at home?” he asked quickly.
I bit my lip.
“If it makes you uncomfortable…”
“No its fine…” I said. “My dad was suffering major depression when I was three. Me nor my mum knew about it. He seemed perfectly fine at home… anyway… he jumped in front of train one day and…” I held back the tears and looked at my fingers. Louis scooted a bit closer to me and grabbed my hand. I looked at him and smiled a little. He returned the gesture. ”Died.” I finished. “So my mom went mad and started abusing my since… hence the scars.” I gulped. “And if I call the cops, and she catches me… she breaks a bone or two. My teacher Paige Yonny has given me everything. My phone and clothes. She has been overly sweet to me. And when I call them in private. So that I won’t get killed, she always sweet-talks the police into letting her go. I have tried to run away before, but she always caught me, and broke a bone or two of mine. This time I succeeded… hence the suitcases.”
I looked over and saw louis listening intently.
I looked at our hands. “You know its nice to talk to someone who listens to me. Besides Paige… I don’t know its just nice…” I trailed off.
“No. I like listening. You have it baaadd.” He cracked a smile.
I let out a small laugh. I looked down.
“You should probably go… back to you know… to the guys.” I said and looked at him.
He was thinking for a second.
“No.” he said after a while.
“What?”
“No. I am coming with you.” He said. Eyebrows still creased from thought.
“I don’t think that is a good ide…” I started and untwined my fingers from his.
“No. I am coming. You are not talking me out of this.” He said seriously.
“Okay. We are sleeping here for the night. Make yourself comfortable.” I said and gestured to the space around me.
He found a spot and settled down.
