MASON
Jacob passed the loaded hot plate to me, without so much as warning me, but I knew if I dropped it, it was coming out of my paycheck. Letting out a grunt, I took the other two plates, walked out to the dining room, set them in front of the people next to the window, and filled up their waters and coffees.
They where the last people of the day, and when they left Jacob would watch over the store while Kyle and I cleaned up the restaurant and Tyler the youngest would clean off tables and vacuum.
I used to be the youngest, only 14, but now I got Tyler to work here, and he is 12. Jacob and Kyle are both 16, they are friends who got work by my grandma, who runs the place, and Tyler is an old family friend, so I got him work here.
The people where gone now giving me a $15 tip, which I waved in Jacobs face. Therefore, Kyle went to work moving stuff off the counters and turning the radio on, and I started the dishes.
When a Nickelback song came on, he started to sing in a deep alto voice, and at the right moment I joined in. I do not think much of my voice, but I'm told it's beautiful. I normally don't sing in front of people but I like to sing when working. It helps me focus.
A large group of people came in just as Jacob and I reached the part where are voices mixed together, and the group stopped talking and moving around, I usually stop singing at this point, feeling self-conscience singing in front of other people that I don't know, but we were doing so good today.
When the song ended, Kyel and I smiled at each other and did a deep Chinese bow, then cracked up laughing. I turned around because Tyler and Jacob were snorting and trying to hold back laughter. Right in the front of the restaurant was the whole Boy Scout camp. Mostly ages around 12 to 16.
"Mason! Didn't know you could even sing. When did you learn to sing? Where? What are you doing here? Why are you wearing an apron?" the questions were relentless, from several different people to.
"Nice to see you too, Danny." I said calmly, holding back a smile. Then glared at Jacob and Tyler "Will you two stop laughing? You're going to rupture a spleen."
"Mason? Who's mason?" a random guy said
"Who cares about the mason person? Who's the chic?" another random male
"Wow, how aren't you guys blonde?" Ricky said, Danny snorted.
"Yea guys, she's gonna whip ya now." Logan commented.
"Well as soon as you guys are done, this chic is going to go do her job." I twirled and marched back to my dishes.
"Aw Mason, don't take offense from these here polliwogs! I came here to offer you a job." Paul made me complete the circle I took, and I saw the twinkle in his eyes. He was a professional horse-rider. For a job he took people back packing in the mountains on horses, and I loved working with him.
"What kind of job?" I said elusively
"For $9 an hour you are my assistant, and help me teach these city boys how to sit on something other then a chair." he knew I would take the job, how could I not?
"Well, I will have to run it past my manager, and finish today's work. Will my animals get to work with me?" I knew my manager (grandma) would say yes, and I knew my animals could come with me.
"Of course! Why not?" he boomed, he was a large man, with a little extra weight then most, plenty of muscle, dark skin tanned and smile wrinkles around his brown eyes with brown hair underneath his straw cowboy hat.
